Common Courtesy!

Sitting down eating Sunday dinner yesterday afternoon I receive a call from one of my players... 'Tucks I need to talk to you. I got a problem. Another manager in the CCL but a division higher who I shall not name has offered me £*** ( yes 3 figures) a game and if I an honest I am tempted. I need the money etc etc' My response ...' If he is mad enough to offer that money bite his arm off but tell him... make sure he contacts me just out of courtesy'.

 

Unhappy that Mrs T's Roast potatoes was now cold, I gave the manager a call myself and asked why he had not contacted me before as we were 'old friends' and why he approached the player before putting a 7 dayer in.

 

I got the usual spill..........oh I have been after him for some time but he was not available and I have other players to look at not just him??????? Then tells me he is meeting the player soon to find out what the player is doing because he needs to know.... even though he has other players to look at!

 

Told him I wanted to know tonight what was finalised....within half hour I get a call...' Yes the player wants to join me' My response 'Ok put the 7 dayer in tomorrow' To which I got 'oh you want a 7 dayer'!!! YES I F****NG DO.

 

 

All could have been sorted without the fuss if the so called 'Old friend' as he put it would have shown COMMON COURTESY and just called me before hand!

Not the point of who the player is and loyalty goes out the window when money is shoved in front of people. In todays world people are struggling with rent/mortgages and bills who wouldnt take the money. My grievance is that why not just ask the players club/manager before offering an absurd amount of money. And smudge, Gareth was very loyal to me at the back end of last season when he was offered elsewhere. Not the first time this season this has happened, a club who we played in pre-season coming in for a player. The problem is clubs offer the world just to get the player they think they want. The players eyes light up and then they get shoved in somewhere they dont want to be and all the hard work the player has put in over the pre season goes out the window. They become frustrated and lose confidence in their ability because the so called 'bigger club' has not looked after them

I wont name player or club. In fact I think its a good money move for the player who wouldnt want their mortgage paid playing in CCL Premier. The player is a friend of mine and would always welcome him back. Now 18:35 and still no 7 dayer!! ha ha

Gareth Graham I am reliably informed joined Croydon F.C. and played I am led to believe against Dorking F.C yesterday.So much for loyalty to the players who done a Full pre-season,as I previously posted weeks ago,a long hard season ahead for Croydon,all the players brought in by them are 30 or over,and done very little or no Training at all.I am glad I walked away when I did,after the Horley game.Just regret that I did not do it sooner.Honesty is what I am about,and many lies were told to the players.Awaits phone call from Dixon,which used to be daily when your in favour,but never rings when you are not.Man Management classes definitely needed.

Smudge my grievances are this. Gareth Graeme called me himself and told me off dicksons offer which was not the players duty to do so. Dickson should have contacted me himslef after speaking to Gareth a week before I was told, and no Gareth didnt do pre season with me and I never at anypoint said he did. He came to me for minutes on the field which I could give him. As for John Docherty he had been at my pre-season from the first week in and had played all of the friendlys icluding the game against Merstham Res and smudge you was at that game. In my post I did not once say that Merstham offered him the world I said thats what the bigger clubs do for all players when the come up against them in pre season and think that the player can improve their squads. For Merstham to approach the player before the player had even had a shower was a liberty and they to should have spoke to me as they all know me and expressed an interest in John. I have never stopped any player wanting to progress higher and better themselves. My point in this whole thread is that the club or manager who wish to POACH players from other clubs should have the courtesy or Bolloc*s in some mangers cases to not hide behind money and a mobile phone but be open with the players club and his fellow opposing manager and give them a call.

Ha Ha Fan there has always been admirers for him and the older cecil brothers before now. James is a quality player but suffers witrh bad injuries. He only plays and dont train and I accept that because of his quality. Higher league clubs have come for him before now and he has not gone. There no doubt will be more clubs that come for him but hopefuly he will stay.
