e mail virus...

any one seen this new virus that is clogging the web up.. i presonally find this kind of stuff very entertaining.. but does it have a real impact on anyone on here.. LAZ? your a computor man, does this kind of thing affect your job ?

I don't really deal with that kind of thing, I just take a lot of care when opening emails from people, particuarly attached Word documents.

 

I don't know too much about this new virus. I'm not really IT, I'm a developer.

 

I prefered the old style viruses that used to do far more damage like scambling your hard-disk. A lot more work went into them and they had nasty names.

i agree the early ones were great and generated a real sense of fear in the big companies.. i guess firewalls are 2 sophisticated now for a mere e mail spam virus

You've got to hand it to the computer people who invented the idea of the Millennium Bug.

 

"Hey, let's tell the whole world their computers will crash and there'll be world-wide chaos on Dec 31st 1999, unless they pay us a shtload of money in which case we'll pretend to mend them, and make a mint."

It certainly was. We deal with TV companies who consider broadcasting to be a life or death matter: the show must go on and all that.

 

I had many of them write to me asking is the software Y2K complient. I just said yes without really checking!

 

I was also asked if I'd be available on Millenium night ! Remember that night, Zealster?

I got sent 5 of them new e-mail virus's yesterday to my BPM account, I thought as I was at work I'd try and open it to see what happens but the bloody virus checker stepped in and ruined it. I agree these things are quite amusing as people panic so much without computers (even though a computer still has the brain power of a 5yr old kid) but if it meant shelling out £100's to fix my home computer I'd be a bit p*ssed oarf, work computer though is another matter <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
