Brackley Vs Windsor

A similar performance to the Leamington victory, but with a solid defensive performance. Again 0-0 at half time, followed by another sucker punch quick goal after half time. A break down the right side to Jake Parsons, who crossed the ball over the Brackley defence who failed to deal with it, leaving Michael Chennells to hammer the ball in from around 8 yards rattling the underside of the crossbar on 47 minutes

Three minutes later a long hopeful ball out of defensive goes straight to Brackley keeper Darren Acton whose attempted clearance back up field hits Fiston Manuella on the shoulder to leave the Royalist's Midfielder to slot the ball into the net. 2-0 to Windsor on 50 minutes.

For all of Brackley's talent and experience on paper, in reality they offered little. They were pretty direct and relied on long high balls down the wing or down the middle which Windsor dealt with calmly and confidently. The majority of their efforts on goal were pretty soft and Delroy Preddie dealt with easily. Their best chance was in the ninth minute when two efforts in quick succesion from Brackley's Francis Green, were more than matched by a superb double save from Delroy.

Windsor gave a very defensive performance in the first half and seemed happy to sit back, relying on the odd sporadic break, one of which lead to Chennells hitting the post on 28 minutes.

Following the quick double salvo after half time, the Royalists played with more confidence and started to pass the ball around and keep possesion. Windsor never looked back and secured an excellent three points up in Northamptonshire. The celebratory shouts of joy from the dressing room spoke volumes.

Man of the match - David Woozley: Wooze has given some good performances this season, but this was the best I'd seen from him. He didn't put a foot wrong this afternoon, won everything in the air, and was simply an inspiraion in defence. You can see that Justin Clayton is learning a lot from him, and IMO the seeds of a great defensive partnership are being sown.

Player ratings:

Preddie - 7 Had little to do, but was dependable when called upon. Super double save. Had one small flap, but it wouldn't be Delory without one! ;-)

Brown - 7.5 A solid game on the right side.

Owens - 6.5 Good stopping ability, but needs think a little more and look up when playing the pass forward.

Clayton - 8 A solid mature performance, great positioning and awareness. Needs a little work on composure though.

Woozley - 10 A brick wall. Did what a captain should and lead by example. Great talking and organising and won everything he challenged for.

James - 7 A shaky start but improved as the game went on.

Parsons - 9 Great work down the flank, and his link ups with Chennells caused panic in the Brackley defense.

Manuella - 7 Battled away and drove the team forward, but needs to work on his fitness. Had nothing left to give at the final whistle.

Wadieh - 8 A slow start but grew in stature. A superb second half and worked well with 'Fish'.

Chennells - 9 Was feeding off scraps in the first half. Super finish for his goal. Held the ball up well. Often tracked and won the ball from deep. Great link play with Jake.

Pearce - 9. Worked tirelessly. Never stopped. Looked fit to drop when subbed.

Ewang (for Pearce - 80 mins). I don't think that it would be fair to give a rating, as Michael didn't have enough time to make an impact, and most of the play from that point was largely on the right side of the pitch. The job was done by then.

A great result today. Brackley were well well fancied, given their ( reckless?) spending. It always ;pains me to see a club trying to spend it's way to success, and failing miserably.

9 points from 6 games is a fantastic return. I fully expected us to struggle badly early doors, but we're picking up useful points and, given the fact that the team is a work in progress, i think we can survive fairly comfortably in this league.

Our home form is slightly worrying. Obviously teams set out to play differently away from home, and that's something we will have to address quickly.

I'm not going to blow Dave Mudge's trumpet again, lest i should be accused of being Dave Mudge posting under a ridiculous pseudonym.

A very well written report from Karlmarx. I felt like i was kicking every ball, winning every header, hoofing every ball out into the car park, making those feckin ball boys work for their burgers.

Bring on Halesowen, or Hednesford, or whoever it is we're playing next........

Super performance yesterday! Everyone gave their all and it was good to see the ball on the ground being played around with some confidence! Have to say i was really surprised with Brackley i thought they were poor considering the money they have spent. Heard a rumour that Dave Mudge is applying to play all games away from home now ;)

Personally I thought one of the key factors about the game was the superb playing surface, it allowed us to play a passing and possession game that suited our players more than a hit and hope style. I also thought that Brackley tried to play football as well and early on had a few chances that had me fear for our chances of getting something out of the game. But the second half we looked much more composed and Delroy had very little to do.

I would go for Fiston Manuella as my man of the match, everything we did seemed to go through him, he won pretty much everything in the air and controlled teh midfield, he even scored a goal whilsy looking the other way!!!!

One last thing (and teh weather my be a contributing factor) but what a lovely club to visit. Nice clubhouse, loads of children there giving it a really family feel and friendly nice people.

I can't argue with you about the club. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, and it all certainly helped calm my nerves on my first reporting gig. Even the local reporters I sat with in the press box were

very helpful and easy to get along with.

A very nice club, a great pitch and a neat little ground. I look foward to going back there if both teams are in the same division next season.

What a result, if somebody had said before the season started we would beat Leamington & Brackley I would have said they were mad.

Again the four five one formation paid dividends. The 3 guys in the centre of midfield didn't give the Brackley midfield any time or space all afternoon.

Although Brackley had more possession and forced quite a few corners they didn't really ever look that threatening. In the end they resorted to shooting from distance and just hanging long crosses into the area which Woozley, Clayton & Delroy dealt with pretty comfortably. Delroy had a good game and made some good saves, he also looked a bit more confident claiming high balls. Its amazing how he looks so much more assured when he's not suffering a barrage of abuse from his own fans!

The pitch was immaculate which seemed to help us more than Brackley. We look really good when we get the ball on the floor and play football. It was nice to see our opposition trying to play a bit of football too, the one thing that has disappointed me so far this season is the long ball style deployed by most sides we have come up against.

A good all round performance again. Everyone played well but Woozley was probably man of the match again.

As Fuzzy said Brackley seem to be a nice club with a good setup. Its a bit concerning though to hear rumours they are paying out around 8k a week in wages but only seem to get a couple of hundred through the turnstiles. As we found to our cost this summer spending well above your income ultimately has huge ramifications later on. I hope Brackley don't fall into the trap of throwing good money after bad and threatening their long term future.
