Biggleswade v Stfc

Thoroughly deserved win. 5-1 maybe flattered us a little bit but I thought going there it might be a tight game after the loss there last season and Biggleswade's unbeaten start to the season, so an excellent result.

Sincs will no doubt get the headlines, and rightfully so but also thought Murphy had his best game for us this season and Logie was once again very good with Swift as well.

Bit of a suprise when we get there to see Yiads on the bench, Harps starting alongside the very experienced Steve Perkins who many may remember already has played for Slough in one pre-season game against Boreham Wood for the Rebels under Wilko. He'll add some excellent experience to the side in defence or midfield. Two seasons ago Steve was Welling's player of the season in the Conference South, so we have a very good signing there. Competition for places is great.

Only slightly disappointing thing was Hitchin's two late goals today otherwise we would have been top.

Oh and on a side note Elliott scored his first goal for Hayes and Yeading today.

The first half an hour was some of the most assured football I've seen from a Slough side for many years. Biggleswade started to come back into it later in the first half and early in the second, leading to their goal. They did get in behind our defence on many occasions in the second half.

Swift and Logie were once again superb. Sincs was causing problems on the right and obviously weighed in with goals. Coyne seemed to tire late on so wasn't surprised to see Sam come on.

How many times ahve we scored FIVE away from home in the last ten years?!!

Disappointing effort from me today, so apologies already. Didn't really get Logie's goal as the camera was too high and didn't get their goal at all despite no distractions surrounding me!

Just compiling and uploading to Youtube now so will be available on the Official Site (http://www.sloughtownfc.net) in the morning.

Having missed the previous two games and sure that we needed another striker, I'm not sure where I stand after today's game.

Barring a couple of shaky moments (which I'd like to put down to communication with a brand new centre-half partnership perhaps), I thought we were excellent, and actually well worth the five goals we scored. And none of them were from out-and-out strikers despite Martin and Sonner both having excellent games. Martin's link-up play was great and Sonner worked his nuts off as usual. Either would have deserved MOTM but I couldn't really ignore Sinclair's contribution. He was rather helped out by a couple of goalkeeping howlers and a defensive mistake though!

Looking at the midfield, all of Sinclair, Swift, Logie and Coyne look like they could get 10-15 goals each, despite the latter not getting off the mark just yet. Add that to occasional goals chipped in from defenders, and we could be just fine.

Long may the current run of goals continue, and even better if we can cut out the mistakes at the back!

Also, the signing of Steve Perkins looks very astute considering the experience he has at Conference and Conference South level. At 34 he's by no means over the hill either, and there's great competition in the squad now with lots of players to come back in.

very good game today. we had a new defender steve perkins (i think). he played fairly well.

everyone played very well only sweeney had a below average (for him) game but this may have been because he was getting used to playing with the new player.

dean harper cme back in today and played very well clearing the lines and blockin the goal. Jacko had a few iffy moments when he wasn't too sure wether to come out to meet the player or not.

sinclair got a hat trick but he was helped by the goalie not being able to close his legs TWICE. Coyne had a solid game again, spreading the ball all over the pitch. Martin showed us that he is no longer "scared" of heading the ball. Sonner put in his usual non stop work rate and really pressured the defence.

My MOTM was adam Logie, he scored one, hit the cross bar, spread the ball well and helped out in defence alot.

generally overall good game with a well deserved 3 points.

also very good price wise £8 for adult and a FREE programme - almost unheard of.

Mind you looking at the programme if you had to pay for it you would have been robbed!

The "Do we neeed a 20 goal striker", "Do we not need a 20 goal striker" debate I can see from both sides of the table. At this stage of the season were scoring goals for fun, however this time last season we were doing likewise without that kind of striker. But yet you look at games midway/late in the campaign last year (eg at home to Sudbury for example where we lost 0-1 in the latter half of the season despite dominating the game for long periods) and games like SYCOB where we won 3-1 with a 20 goal striker (Elliot scoring twice in the 2nd half) i'm not sure we would have won I think that''s why fans worry a bit. Nothing against the team or current strikers, who have been very good so far - just a worry looking back on some of the games we saw last season.

Only slight disagreement is Paul Coyne. Quality midfielder and a great signing for us but so far looks unlikely to reach double figures on the scoring front!

Do we or don't we (need an out and out goalscorer)? I'd previously argued we do.

Thinking back to previous seasons (not the recent past) we've had 'proper' goalscorers. Tony Boot, Sammy Winston, Ian Hodges, Matt Murphy. I guess the issue with players like those was if they didn't score nobody else was likely to either. The benefit this year is any one of the midfielders is likely to pitch in with goals plus the likes of Harper and Yads who can also do so from corners/set pieces. Plus Sean and Gary were unlucky yesterday with chances that hit the woodwork.

We've scored more goals at the beginning of this season than any other I can recall in recent memory but we could have been out of sight at half-time yesterday had we taken more of the chances we had. Would a Tony Boot type player have scored them? Who knows.

I do believe that it was the fantastic work rate and unselfish link up play of Sean and Simon yesterday that carved out the opportunities for the likes of Sincs, Logie et al. Whilst it would be nice if we had a Yash/Buchanan/Boot type player who you know is gonna hit the net, it's difficult to argue changing the team at present for the sake of a player like that.

I'm sure the next game we're struggling for a goal I'll change my mind again!! Nice problem to have though, isn't it?!!

I can't remember the last time we had a midfield unit as good as Sincs, Coyne, Logie and Swift. They have all got good skills and great passing ability. It was an absolute pleasure to watch at times yesterday. Long may it continue!

To be fair to our strikers they are scoring goals every game but they are being dissalowed due to off sides and some debateable decisions.

For instance yesterday sean Sonner scored twice, the first was ruled out due to a small push in the back and the second due to a very late off side being given by a very dozy linesman who had been ery late to give any decision (When he actually gave one).

So as long as our strikers stay on side and we get some good fortune from the ref then i am sure that our attackers will score many goals.

This is also our most attacking midfield we have had in a long time and so this is why we may be so surprised to see them scoring so many goals.

Who ever scores the goals doesnt really matter, it is only that we are scoring goals unlike seasons gone by that matters.
