Violent conduct vs Handbags

Will be interesting to get your views on this.  Mine are here:

I'm pretty much zero tolerance when it comes to Violent Conduct.  The worry is that perhaps, like swearing, what is classed as Violent Conduct is not uniform.  To get the comment, "It wasn't a _proper_ fight" as a complaint following a double dismissal (where punches were thrown) was.... interesting.

Where do you see the line?  Note that a caution for Unsporting Behaviour can be given and classed for the FA as 'Adopting an aggressive attitude'...

Handbags = Nose to nose confrontation. A push, below the neck, after challange/tustle etc. Not letting a player get up after a tackle and the player is trying to get away etc. Verbals.

Violent Conduct = A strike or kick to any part of the body. Push anywhere above the neck. Spitting. Two footed challanges or challanges that are intended to injure, including elbows(determined by Ref = possible inconsistency, unfortunately).

Saw a classic incident once in Sunday Football, a player was headbutted, incurring a broken nose, and cut lip, when he got up of the Floor he knocked his assailant sparko. Is defending yourself in Football not allowed, both of course were red carded.Could he use it as mitigating circumstances.

Krooner has a good story regarding a similar incident.

That was a few years ago TC. Just for YV a two footed challenge is classed as Serious Foul Play.

I refereed a local Sunday game many years ago. It was very one sided but nothing nasty going on. then out of the blue a player from the losing team literally starts assualting an opponent. And I mean assaulting him. It was quite scary. Nobody wanted to intervene until the other player fought back. When he did everyone piled in. I sent both players off for violent conduct. On my report form to the County I stated that the player had to protect himself otherwise he would have been badly hurt and I felt the sending off was enough punishment and that he should not receive a ban. I actually beleive he should have gone to the police because it was a genuinley frightening assault. anyway the player was banned and appealed. He told the truth and his manager completely contridicted what he said. I just maintained that he should not be banned and had to defend himself. He was acquitted on that basis and rightly so. The game finished 5-0 and it was 12 seasons ago..

Just for YV a two footed challenge is classed as Serious Foul Play. I understand Krooner, included it as violent conduct as intent to injure. I have been on the recieving end a few times. :ezicon11:

And I thought it was spot on that you reported it in that way.
