Royalists on the radio.

Hi all,

For this season, I have offered to do Windsor match reports for Radio Wey, the hospital radio station based at St. Peters in Chertsey. They have a good Saturday afternoon sports show that covers many of the local non-league teams (Hampton, Staines, Chertsey, Walton & Hersham, Ashford, Bracknell), that is available online at www.radiowey.co.uk.

I have mentioned to the friendly chap (in fact everyone seems friendly down at Stag Meadow, and I love the Hot Chocolate from the tea bar) who sells the 50/50 tickets that I would like to start covering home games asap, but I haven't taken it any further than that, as I was waiting for the okay from the station to report on Windsor for this season, so if anyone else can point me in the right direction I woiuld be grateful.

I will be phoning in a match preview, first and second half reports, half time if time permits (depending on the number of matches being covered on the day) and full time report. I should be able to make the majority of home games this season and hopefully some away matches, so there will be match reports most Saturdays during the season.

I am going to start at Brackley tomorrow, so for anyone who can't make the trip, please tune in online if you can.

I've never done this before, and I will be a little nervous so I can't promise how good (or even bad!) my reports are going to be, but I hope they will to give you a picture of the game.

Thanks,

Mark.

Oh well, I've spent an hour + listening to a commentary of Hampton -v- Dover but haven't heard a single mention of Windsor & Eton. Mind you I did nod off at Half time so maybe I missed a report on our game.

Don't think I'll bother with this again if there aren't going to be any regular updates!

Hi Rother,

Please accept my apologies for the lack of reports, as I should have made a preview and first half report by 3.30pm and was waiting for the studio to call and put me on air, but I received no calls. I tried calling the studio a few times but didn't get through until about 3.50pm, when I discovered that the presenter couldn't trace my mobile number. I was put straight on air so gave a half time report.

There was a second half report at 4.35 (again I rang into the studio) and a full time summary just after 5.00pm, so I hoped that you heard them. I will try to post a report on here later to make up for the lack of radio updates.

Again, I am sorry for the problems today, I can understand your frustrations (believe me, I was just as frustrated) and please try us again. I am new to this, so please bear with me and I promise I will do my best to make sure today's problems do not occur in future.

Thanks,

Mark.

Hi Mark, not your fault fella!! I did stick with it for the most part and got the full time report so all was not lost.

A positive suggestion - in your summary go into a bit more detail about moments in the game mentioning specific players; it heps to build a picture in the listener's mind.

You said that Preddie made a couple of excellent saves, Brown got sent off and Clayton was very solid again - good stuff, but I'd have liked to have known how other players faired as well.

Oh and although I might have missed it (I had half an eye on the Ryder Cup plus my right ear on the Reading game!) I don't think you said who scored our goal in the end-game summary.

Well done and keep up the good work! (Maybe I should give you my mobile number so if you can't get through to the studio you could give me a personal report!!!)

Thanks for your feedback, Rother.

I've not had any training at all, so I'm learning as I go. As soon as I finish each report, I start picking holes in it and thinking of ways to improve. I'm still working out how to do a decent final summary, so I will gladly take your comments on board. I didn't go into much detail about the first half as I had given the details at half time, but I guess that that's not very helpful to the listener if they had missed previous reports. The difficult part is trying to work out what to say when you know that you have got only 90 seconds for the preview and match reports and about two minutes at full time, and for me there is a certain pressure in trying not to go over that when the studio had other (today there were eight) matches to fit in a tight schedule. :nervous:

Also, I'd wish that my brother was a little more patient and would wait for me to send the full time report , as I've done the last three in the car travelling back and my preparation would likely be a little better if I wasn't doing it on the M4 like today - and he ate most of the Haribos whilst I was on the radio! shocked2%20(2).gif

I'd be very interested to know if other supporters tuned in today, as I'd be grateful for all the feedback I can get, and if there are any media 'pros' out there - I'd really appreciate any advice you can give! Thanks. :feedback:
