Eton Manor vs Southill Alexander FC

This Saturday is an historic day for Southill Alexander FC when they participate for the first time ever in a National FA tournament. The FA Carlsberg Vase.

Their opponents for this historic fixture is Essex Senior League side Eton Manor. A club that has been in existence for over 100 years compared to Southill Alexander's 2nd year. Southill will be looking to make up for a disappointing midweek loss, but knows it'll be a tough match against a team that plays 2 levels higher in the Non-League Pyramid.

Date: Sept 4th, 2010

Venue: Mayesbrook Park (home of Barking FC), Lodge Avenue, Dagenham, Essex RM8 2JR

Kick Off: 3.00pm

A report:

Eton Manor 3-0 Southill Alexander

FA Vase 1st Qualifying Round

Entry £6

Programme £1

Crowd: 28 h/c

Sadly the news of Non-League day didn't seem to have reached this part of East London as there were only about 4 people in view when my Dad and I entered at around ten to 3, this only swelling when a few Manor die hards and players mates emerged as the game was kicking off.

Despite a rather even opening, where both teams tried to play a bit of football Manor gradually took the game by the scuff of the neck and once they got their noses in front around 15 minutes there only looked to be one winner. It might have been a different story if a curling Alexander effort from 25 yards out had found the net, but this was athletically tipped over by Daley in the Manor goal.

Alexander looked a bit outclassed at times as Manor (fairly) outmuscled them in midfield and created numerous half chances around the edge of the box. The second goal came shortly before half time, the visitors heads went down and that really was that.

Any hope of an unlikely comeback were extinguished just a minute into the second half as Manor scored a well taken goal from an acute angle to make it 3-0.

Berkhamsted away for the winners, so that's where I shall be in a couple of weeks.

Eton Manor 3-0 Southill Alexander

A warm welcome was given by the hosts as Southill Alexander played their first ever FA Carlsberg Vase match.

Eton Manor came out hard, with their physical and pacy play and took advantage by two first half strikes. Though Southill were denied a clear penalty when an Eton Manor player clearly handled the ball deliberately inside the penalty box. Somehow, the Referee missed it. Going in at halftime Southill were still in the game and looking for a comeback. However, in the second half, an early strike by Manor put the tie out of reach. One consolation was that no injuries were picked up.

Next game for Southill is League action against Leighton Utd.
