Challenge Trophy

7 0 Hanwell Town v Amersham Town

A report on this one from last night:

Hanwell Town 7 Amersham Town 0 SSML Challenge Trophy

Admission £6 inc programme

Attendance 37

Hot Scotch pie from the Marks and Sparks at the garage round the corner £1.49

Sometimes there are nights that restore your faith in football. This was one of them

A delayed set off from work due to being blocked in in the car park saw me arrive at the garage at 6.50 pm. A quick fill up of petrol (for the car, not me) and a scotch pie purchase later I headed to the ground. Into the rutted car park just as the drizzle became a bit heavier, and heavier. There are some things you associate with grounds and with Hanwell it seems to chuck it down 9 times out of 10. A scotch pie later and after listening to the sports news, or rather, the latest on the cricket, I headed into the ground.

A sparse crowd were gathered for what I thought would be a one sided game. I knew Hanwell had some quick players and having seen Amershams record so far this season I was hopeful of goals, and so it transpired. Strangely though Amersham played some nice stuff as well but the difference was Charley Baverstock. This guy has pace to burn and he can control the ball as well. He scored all 3 goals in the first half as Hanwell went in 3-0 up. All credit to Amersham though as they kept trying to play football and created chances without taking them.

The 2nd half saw more of the same with Baverstock adding a couple more despite suffering with cramp. All credit to the Amersham keeper who came out of his area to help him as he lay on the turf despite the fact he'd already put 4 past him by then. A final score of 7-0 was undoubtably harsh on Amersham but Baverstock with 5 goals was virtually unstoppable

Amersham played their part in a very enjoyable game well refereed by Chris Reid who allowed for the very wet conditions during the first half.

An easy journey home and news on the radio that Barnsley had gubbed Leeds 5-2 cheered me even more

Becauseican - Put it this way, If there were 86 paying spectators at Hatfield Town last night actually watching the proceedings from beginning to end then I'm a Dutchman

Full credit to Hatfield last night for what was a very enjoyable cup tie. Just as we began to play out best stuff they got the second and killed off the tie.

Regardless of whether the crowd was '86' or not - the game was played in an excellent spirit. It seems Hatfield have done a lot to improve their image over the last season or so.

Fair play and good luck to them!

Derek Dougan is King - Well if you were in attendance last night you must know what the crowd was!

5 1 Haringey Borough v Ampthill Town

http://www.haringeyb...18219&conf==

A report on the one sided, poorly attended proceedings from Coles Park last night:

Spartan South Midlands League Challenge Trophy

Haringey 5 Ampthill 1

Attendance: 11 spectators, of which 3 were paying spectators (me, a Leyton Orient fan with binoculars and an amiable lady with teeth missing)

Admission: £5 including 12 page programme

I didn’t mean to end up here. I planned to go to North Greenford but didn’t that realise that their opponents Biggleswade had an FA Cup replay until early afternoon. Luckily I had a London A-Z and the Non-League Paper, and this seemed to be the best of a bad bunch. Besides which, I liked the idea of being in the ground that’s really in White Hart Lane, while Tottenham were making their Champions’ League debut elsewhere.

I’m sure I read that Haringey’s stand is due to be demolished. Not sure why as it is an imposing elevated structure with 300 or so seats, offering a great view, albeit with some supporting posts in the way.

Haringey took the lead after 55 seconds (thanks to the O’s fan for the timing) and that set the scene for a very one sided match. Ampthill played a strange formation, 3-4-3 I think, and were set up to attack. But sadly they’re not very good, and this performance explained why they have leaked 30 goals in just 9 league games. The Haringey goal scorers had plenty of time and space to size up four of them.

Very easy venue to reach. I’ve been to the other White Hart Lane many times and it’s the most inaccessible London league venue, which is why I’d put off going to nearby Haringey. But by approaching it another way - taking the tube to Wood Green and a bus from there - it’s an easy run. Match finished at 21:35 and I was back at Charing Cross by 22:15.

86 paying spectators is less than Tokynton Manor got all of last season when Rhode..ant was officially the toilet attendant, apparently in his interview he spoke so much sh1t they felt he was just right for the job....and so it proved as he made sure he flushed the club right down the pan to be seen no more haha

As for 2nd division sides, Winslow came close to causing an upset against the mighty Tring Athletic, Bucks Students Union put out Buckingham Ath and Risborough beating division one pace setters Berko, wicked result.

Mursley 2 weeks ago seeing off Stony, not bad for a division that many feel is full of sh1t teams eh

And of course Padbury United

Is Trigger playing for Cranfield?

That is a big step down from Aylesbury.............I mean Padbury.

Why go to Cranfield rather than Padbury, Prob not much compitition for places there though.

Another joker using 2 identities to hide behind :welcome:

Its all getting a bit 1 sided on here is'nt it. thats that famous Padbury team spirit.

maybe you could take a few tips and try and introduce a bit of spirit within the cranfield ranks,

You never know results may start to improve........Doubt it though.

I've got a good idea how about stop worrying about improving your ground(witch is very nice by the way)

and try and find some actual decent players?

Sorry just realised your ground is the only way your going to stay up.....I get it now.

Good management!!!!!

division 2 teams are highly underrated, last season when berko were there id say there were 4 or 5 teams who would have easily finished top half of division1. As i see it Padbury had a good team last season and if there have been additions to the squad then they will be a hard team to beat this time round, good luck to them i say.
