Takeley 0-4 Enfield

The Barking forum says that Matty West's dad was there too. As a dad of a 22 year old player, I can only imagine what was going through his mind. He must have been torn between rage and a feeling of hopelessness.

I think I would have killed the b'stard.... or died trying.

To be fair to the boy I saw him as he left and he looked understandably quite shaken up. As Anton says it's not the kind of thing that you'd usually associate with him (Gill and John said the same to me too last night), I think maybe he'd just pumped himself up too much for the game, however, that still doesn't excuse the tackle and nobody should try to.

The fact that Danny Vincent is "not normaly like that" will be of no comfort to Matty West or his family.

Being "pumped up" might excuse a rash or miss-timed tackle, but as FCFAN says, it does not explain or excuse a deliberate, over the top, two footed lunge, as was described. Especially after he had aleady committed one bad challenge and had received a yellow for it. That alone should have calmed him down.

I know Westy really well and I feel gutted for him.

Matty mate, I wish you the very very best pal.

Keep your chin up and knowing how strong a character you are you'll be back in no time.

I have left you a message on your mobile.

Just to clarify -the wait for the ambulance was 40 minutes although it must have felt like 40 years to Matt. The crew when they did arrive were efficient and friendly. It was a "straight" red card in addition to the earlier yellow. 2 players put out of action in 18 minutes as Ben O'Brien received a nasty leg injury too ! Despite the excruciating agony Matt somehow managed to stay fairly cheerful and even managed to joke with the ambulance crew. Nobody could really do much for him until the ambulance arrived but there was a lot of support and attempted comfort from our players ,management, physio and club officers.

Update -Matt had an operation today and will have another on monday. The game will now take place next tuesday 7-9-2010.

A report ,as of all our matches, appears on our website. Thank you everybody for your concern and good wishes.

Naughty tackle doesn't describe it.

Worst tackle i have ever seen, bar none. It was like a malicious martin taylor tackle.

Came in, two footed over the ball right in the legs. As well, before this he had jumped into one of our players causing stud marks through shin pads. He was already on a yellow card. As well as this he had the cheek with the player (Matty West) writhing on the floor to feign injury, until he realised what he had done.

The tackle led to a 40 minute wait for an ambulance, people directly there said that the bone had broken the skin and there was a lot of blood. His screams could be heard from the other side of the stadium when he was being moved. He was in good spirits, cracking jokes.

His first start of the season as well.

Unfortunately BlueMan has described events perfectly, it was an utterly horrendous tackle, the worst i have seen in any standard of football.

We left our two 17 year olds out of the starting line up fearing a physical encounter and how prophetic was that. Both our central midfielders out of the game after 18 minutes so the aggressive intent was there for all to see. Would personally like to see some space before this game replayed but fear that might not happen due to league rules. Thanks to BGU and Enfield for there messages of concern after the game and for the supportive comments in general on forum- where possible i will pass on to player. A sad night for football i'm afraid.

As Eton Manor were playing us (Southill Alexander FC) this last weekend in the FA Vase, we were concerned about Eton's play as well. Especially after this incident. Needless to say, they were just as physical and we are happy that our players came out without injury.

Well said Hookey. This player should be banned for the whole season.
