Capital Lge - Gravesend & N 1 Hornchurch 2

This was a superb game of football. Plenty of creative passing football from both sides, lots of attacking play and carried out in good spirit - in fact the referee rarely had occasion to blow his whistle.

The first half was more or less even and Andy Finlay had a chance in the 9th minute when he broke clear but shot wide of the mark. Finlay dragged a chance across goal a little later but we had our first look at new signing Jude Sterling who came on mid-way through the half who looked very solid.

We had the better of the second half I thought, although Gravesend hit the crossbar early on and took the lead on the hour with a header from a corner. The lead lasted 5 minutes when deservedly we equalised through Andy Finlay with an unstoppable header from a Barrie Fox free kick. Fox himself had a header well saved by home keeper Jake Slade in the 42nd minute but a minute later Andy Finlay netted to put us in front. Finlay nearly completed his hat-trick a minute after that with a header from another Barrie Fox free kick but it went narrowly over.

Goals will be on the website soon.

Line-up:- Collier, Sorhaindo, Neville (Fields 79), Kite (Sterling 22), Risley, Moore, Fox, Cowley, Finlay, John, Cripps (Damali 72). Subs not used: Wray (GK)

Overall, I thought you looked the better team. We seemed to rely on the long ball too much, especially in the 1st half. The chap who scored our goal was Mihailo Stojkovic, a first-time trialist who had been wearing a Fleet shirt for about ten minutes! Apparently, he can't speak a word of English....should fit in quite well in the town centre then....
