Another good point for us today although on their message board they thought we were a very poor side and they thought they should have put 6 past us!

Yet another good result away from home. Of course, some of those draws will need to turn into wins sooner rather than later, but that will come soon, and one point is certainly better than none, especially at one of the better teams in the division in Bashley.

Roll on Didcot at home on Monday!

Poor might be a bit harsh. A couple of mistakes and a dubious offside.

Yes, they should have had a couple more but then so should we.

But did not so how poor are they?

Quite agree! If it wasn't for the fact that Weymouth had 10 points deducted Bashley would now be bottom! I think a bit of frustration setting in there!

Another good battling performance.

A bit harsh to say we were poor. Bashley were similar to most of the other sides we have played so far i.e. rather robust with a long ball style of football. It wasn't exactly a high quality game for the purists but it was entertaining and quite end to end.

The first goal came against the run of play and totally out of the blue, Dickens played what could only be described as a speculative ball forward, I'm not sure if the ball got caught in the breeze but it seemed to float in the air for ages. Fortunately for us it seemed their keeper was the only person in the ground who didn't realize the ball was goal-bound and just watched it float harmlessly past him with out a care in the world. It took a few seconds to realize what had happened as it all seemed so surreal.

The second goal came from a free kick which dropped down in the box, Bernard just got enough of a poke on the ball to wrong foot the keeper as it bobbled over the line.

Both their goals looked preventable but I suppose they would say the same about ours.

The ref and his assistants seemed to be having a nightmare. They missed a lot of stuff and gave a series of baffling decisions. To be fair the free kick that led to our second goal looked a bit harsh on them however the free kick which led to their second goal was a ridiculous decision, the ref wasn't even going to give a foul until he saw the Bashley player on the floor injured, he then decided it must be a free kick and a booking. It was pathetic but it summed up his display, rather then give what his saw he seemed to wait for an appeal and then give free kicks whether they were merited or not.

In the end we could have nicked it with the final kick of the game, Pearce made a great run and put in a low ball across the 6 yard box which Chennels and Johnson both converged on, it looked like one of them would surely score but unfortunately somehow a Bashley defended threw himself at the ball and got a last ditch block in.

We didn't seem to play as well as last Saturday or Tuesday but a point away from home isn't to be sniffed at.

I think the officials will long be remembered by the Bashley faithful for the many fouls they conceded freekicks for - which is slightly ironic given some of the strong-arm tactics some of their players resorted to. Not sure if anyone noticed that the Assistant Referees were both local guys. In fact one of them lived about a mile away. The fact that one of them was chatting on first name terms with Bashley players was slightly disconcerting. Whilst it makes sense not to bring in officials from a hundred miles away, surely close proximity is also to be avoided? No matter. The halfway point of becoming a team of Robin Hoods : We probably robbed them of a point, but then kept it rather than giving it away to others less fortunate.
