match updates v lancing

Recommended Posts

Oh my goodness what was the referee on today?! It all started when Swift caught one of their players late (justified yellow) who then reacted and nudged Swift with his knee. Yes it was retaliation but a yellow would have sufficed. He then booked a succession of players for inoculous challenges but excelled himself in the second half. Sonner was shown a straight red for catching the defender who had cleared the ball. A late but not malicious yellow card tackle but the referee had made a rod for his own back with the first red. He followed that almost immediately with another red for Lancing for something nobody saw! This was NOT a dirty game at all by either team. There were a couple of dodgy challenges but out of desire to win the ball, nothing else. The Lancing keeper and especially their number 9 were great sports responding to the banter. I hope they do well this season.

I do think we should put in a seven day approach for their groundsman though - I've not seen a better pitch at any non-league ground, any level, ever.

Ground was dug up, re-surfaced and re-seeded like SYCOB's.

i'm not sure if it was the lancing asst man but he should be reported for unsporting conduct for trying to get his no2 to have words with the ref to get coyne sent off, he was told to be quiet by his own manager ,batesy and the linesman, noticed that he was absent himself in the second half , perhaps he got his marching orders.

I think that Slough showed great character to keep a cool head on things and get the job done.

As said Swift had an amazing game and by far MOTM. Great crosses all day and sdistribution was brilliant. Also the effort where he had two Lancing players running towards him so he just lofted the ball over their heads was superb.

Mentions must also go out to Seeby and Yads who were solid. Murphy and sweeney who once again got on with their job very well. Our midfield looks to be the best in the league IMO.

Ref could not control the game and it seemed like he couldnt make his mind up. Got all 3 sendings off correct however IMO. Sonner should never have taken the guy from behind, got the player and not the man and so deserved to go.

I still believe we are lacking some firepower up front. We have good strikers but.......

Martin is a target man, sonner is a second striker, coc is good but doesnt seem to be getting game time, sippo has good touch and play but seems like he is past his best.

I still think we need to replace Elliot who was a goal scorer as was Platty. We need that firepower to get us the goals and then I think we will have a very successsful season.
