Non League Day

Spoken with a few colleagues at work who take an interest in Slough through all the Facebook updates who were totally unaware of the above event. As yet, I don't think it is being publicised greatly outside of Non League Circles which probably isn't the greatest area to target as most people would already be going to a NL game?

PRESS RELEASE – Non League Day – Saturday September 4th 2010

Good morning

James Doe and Mike Bayly are delighted to announce the official launch of the Non League Day website (www.nonleagueday.co.uk) in anticipation of the national event taking place on Saturday September 4th 2010.

The campaign has the patronage of BBC Radio, the Football Supporters Federation, the Ryman League, and various leading independent sports websites. It represents a unique opportunity to promote the non-league game in this country and we would encourage as much national exposure as possible in order to promote this very worthy cause.

Please note this is a strictly not for profit venture, is currently self funded, and aimed solely at promoting semi professional football in this country for the benefit of all clubs and their respective communities. With many non-league sides reliant on volunteer help to exist, it is important to maintain a focus on those who provide an opportunity for fans to watch affordable local football whilst upholding the strongest traditions of the game.

If you require any further information, please contact Media Manager and founder James Doe (james@nonleagueday.co.uk) or Commercial Manager Mike Bayly (mike@nonleagueday.co.uk)

I picked it up from an article in the Guardian and i think the Non League Paper, and you hope they make more of a song and dance about it next Sunday. I also think its up to everyone to pass it on - could Slough Town facebook and twitter it? I know we are away that day but good to spread the word.

What would be really good would be if the FA showed their support for the grass roots game by using all the advertising hoardings at the Wembley on the 3rd to advertise it and insist that the broadcasters push the event during the live broadcast and the highlights. But then pigs may fly.

Until we can regularly get crowds of the upper 300 levels, 410 is more than a respectable crowd and significantly up for Maidenhead on their average, season highest and compared to equivalents from last season, so not something we can really state is a poor crowd. I'd love to see 400+ in our ground for a league game!

Non league day endorsements or not, let's still do our bit to ensure our crowds are returned to a regular 300+ by bringing friends and spreading the good word of Slough Town FC to the locals again and see if we can top Hitchin for numbers through the gate come the end of the season.

If we keep, as it said in Biggleswade's match report, 'playing open and attractive football' winning games, scoring goals and have some good cup runs, I don't see why we cannot get 300+ on regular basis.
