Boreham Wood (again!)

Ian

Recommended Posts

I found the little snippet below posted on the Boreham Wood message board. You have to laugh.

" Also, is it me or is the manager not too interesed during the match, couldn't see much leadership there, certainly no inspiration "

Steve's motivational capabilities also showed through at Thame United tonight.... they lost 2-0

Messages of condolence can be posted at www.borehamwoodfc.com!

Our best players? You got Palmer. Winston, I'm not overly fussed about, we never really had Hakki last season, although if he returns to form, then yes, we'll be sorry, but CJ, Willo and especially Ricky Browne we're glad to see the back of.

We have a better all round player in Miller than Winston, Spencer, Daly & Boot have all stayed despite the 'great ones' attempts to lure them.

Being as though you have half our squad, then yes, we know what to expect from you come the cold months in Essex...

Boringwood, Boringwood, Boringwood.

I don’t for a second believe that the quote at the beginning of this thread is from a Boreham Wood supporter. I believe it’s from either disgruntled Slough Town supporter, or more then likely from a bitter & twisted Enfield supporter / official.

Ps, why do the guys who run your web-site,(Gary), behave in such a childish way.

Quote: boringwood boringwood boringwood, never heard that before, you are so original.

Glad that I got that out of my system, good luck for the rest of the season and I also hope that your ground problems are resolved soon, take some comfort in the fact that Enfield’s chairman is worse then yours.

Gary, have you ever consider turning the other cheek, being the bigger person, or leading by example and all that sort of thing. The pen is only mightier then the sword if used with dignity. All that happens by using silly quotes like boringwood is that you could possibly offend all ten of us B-Wood supporters, nine of which have never posted anything unpleasant on your message board which is not bad considering the predicament your club is in at the moment.

There have been several similar quotes on the BW forum recently, posted by supposedly 'indpendent' supporters (ie neither BW or STFC).

Obviously these people could be masquerading as independents, but the comments were very similar to those being made on this forum throughout last season. So, if posted by a non- STFC/BW supporter they probably carry more weight.

B****** Wood (is that better? ) are having a good run of results at present. Slough had a good run to start last season, and then tailed off through November to a string of consecutive failures. Steve Browne's teams often suffered from October/November doldrums (happened several years in succession), so let's see what happens this autumn at BW...

As for 'Boring Wood' - OK it is probably tiresome to you now, but so it is when people refer to Slough as 'Sluff' (yawn, yawn), or perpetually quote Betjeman's famous lines about the bombs.

Thank you PJ, that’s what I like see, a well written posting that didn’t resort to name calling or sarcasm. I try to practise what I preach, don’t think you will find a posting on any message board with my name attached that contains any insults against other supporters, just banter I hope.

As for Steve Browne, I would be the first to admit that maybe he should have done better whilst he was your manager. In his defence I can only assume that the October/November doldrums may have been caused by the fact that the players were probably not getting paid on time. Like it or not most semi-pro footballers only play at our clubs for the money. Imagine how you would feel if your wages were not in your bank account at the end of the week. Would you be able to go back to work the following Monday and give it your all.

OK now JD, I'll 'grow up' and post sensibly. I've awoken from my mid-morning of childishness. Mind you, the above with Evil, is just banter. He's just an easy fish to bait that's all.

Anyway, back to sensibility. I've a lot of time for Browne. He's a nice enough guy away from the football pitch and we did have a run in or two during his time there, where he thought it justified to give me a verbal lashing for something which wasn't my fault. He soon half-apologised and got on with things. However, I don't believe he is a good manager, and I think this sentiment is echoed through everyone associated with the club now. Those who followed joined as much for the financial stability as much as they followed Steve's smooth talking, which is another of his better traits.

You have excellent players in Palmer and Hakki, which I find the biggest blow especially after we stood by Hakki during his sentencing. Palmer, as I'm sure you've seen already, is a very talented right sided player who is playing below himself at this level. Winston, I'm undecided about. I think he has a dodgy temperament and attitude, but gives his all on the pitch when things are going right. I feel we have a better replacement in the shape of Matt Miller, but time will tell.

As for Williams, CJ & Browne ®, I think most people aren't too worried about seeing these three go. In fact, people are delighted to see the back of Ricky and this was proven when he was sent off at Berkhamstead in the final game of last season. A decision which was cheered and greeted with chants of 'Off' from the Slough fans showing their opinion of the player.

I hope the above is sensible enough for you. Probably won't last for long though JD so make the most of it!
