Hitchin 3-2 Slough

Mr Rebel

Recommended Posts

just got back and i must say very frustrated

took the lead and looked fairly good though Hitchin were attacking at speed frequently. great cross by Coyne and header by Sinclair

red card was unfortunate but it was right if he pulled him back as was last man. not sure if he pulled him or if the guy just run across him causing an unavoidable trip

we began to cope with 10 men quite well but once they got 1 was always likely they'd get more

saying that once we made it 3-2 we looked like we could get back in it

can't fault the effort but we struggled against their fast breaks but to be expected i spose with 10

ref was pretty terrible ignoring so many clear fouls and immediately giving a foul their way which was pathetically inept on refs part

also Hitchin fans were again ridiculously quiet AGAIN (best fans in league SERIOUSLY??) and the fact they ran off despite the win shocked me to. barely a fan left when players still not off pitch

hard luck rebels tried bloody hard for so long

one more thing Logie looked very useful indeed when he came on

Decent game actually, but no doubt the sending-off changed the game and the moment that happened we were always up against it playing 3/4 of the match with 10 men.

Scored an early goal, then Hitchin had a bit of pressure which we looked like we had seen off, but then Chris Seeby drags down the attacker who was clean through on goal and you can'r really argue with the sending off at all.

First 15 minutes of the second-half it was backs against the wall, but after that I thought we matched them despite having 10 men and were a little unlucky with the bounce of the ball in a few attacking situations near the end of the game.

Maybe good to get Hitchin away out of the way as well this early on as we won't get a more difficult fixture than that all season i'd imagine and are only a point behind them.

Agree Mr Rebel - we played well considering we went down to 10, but worked hard to get one back.

Would have to say we were the equals of Hitchin as one man down equals a goal.

If the ref had but as much effort into making correct and unbiased decisions, as he had with his hair, then the game would have been different, but with hair like that and those decisions he should do well in the Hitchin gay bars tonight.

Attendance of 385 was declared, but there was only 350 in the ground in a ratio of 170 Hitchin 180 Slough, so there must have been 30-40 season tickets included.

Still cant see how Hitchin can say they are the best supported team when they are out-numbered at home and the only noise came from the 2 world cup rejects blowing their horns.

Hitchin will be up near the top but they are nothing to worry about.

Not quite sure where you are coming from here Staines, they comfortably outnumbered us, prob around 70-90 away fans. Plus there stats easily show they are the best supported side in the league in terms of numbers and are a decent bunch as well

What a load of nonsense - there were around 60 Slough fans, which we were surprised about - we expected a lot more.

The result may have been different but for the sending off, but it demonstrated that both sides will be there or thereabouts at

the end of the season.

Our fans are quiet - Slough would certainly win any prizes for noise. But Slough are title favourites in our eyes and the team to

beat. We look forward to the return. Interested that somebody thinks you won't have to worry about Hitchin - perhaps not, with your

resources, you may not have to worry about anyone.

Good luck,

A little bit of nonsense in this thread so far - not sure what you've been smoking Staines, but I wouldn't mind some. Our support today amounted to about 75 and I thought it was generally quite subdued. As for "our resources" Neil Jensen, I think we are lucky to have the depth and quality in the squad that we do, but Hitchin are quite clearly no paupers either.

I think today showed that both sides will be up there at the end of the season. The game would obviously have been different had Seeby not been sent off, though it was the correct decision. I thought we were more than a match for Hitchin until that pivotal moment and probably would have come away with at least a point if we'd had 11 men on the pitch. Hitchin's main threat was pace on the break and that's what they exploited in beating us today, especially with us a man light and chasing the game.

I had no expectations in the second half but was very pleased to see that Slough heads didn't drop and even at 3-1 down, we carried on trying to pull it back, though I appreciate that Hitchin could have scored 5 or 6 with a bit of luck.

A shame, but as Chris said, I'm glad this game is out of the way as I consider Hitchin favourites for the title and we might not have a tougher match. Overall I think the feeling amongst supporters at the end of the match was disappointment, but also quite pleasing that we'd played well with 10 men.

I believe that if both Hitchin and Slough will be in the top 3 come the end of the season as we have probably the best two teams in the league and the most supporters (some of us make some noise =])

Simon Martin got the second goal not Yads as the tannoy said today. Surprising that the shortest player (Sinclair) and possibly the worst player at heading last season (Martin) both scored headers but thats the way it goes.

Have to say a BIG WELL DONE to Jacko as he kept us in it the whole game.

Bring on the next contenders!

Two very different approaches - Slough were methodical and measured in their attacks whereas Hitchin were quick and got many forward. Once Seeby went (rightly) I thought we'd struggle to withold the inevitable waves of attacks although I was quite pleased in the second half we started to have a go back resulting in the goal for Yads (not Martin). I thought Hitchin were very good and will be the team to beat this year.

As for the best fans thing, please drop it. It's starting to sound like a playground forum. We might have made a bit of noise today but most of it was screaming expletives at the ref! It was starting to get a bit much even if he did have a bit of a one-sided performance. Hitchin fans (and everyone at the Club) are a good bunch of people.

Pity we had to play most of the game with 10 men because the outcome could have been so different.

Despite the odds stacked against us I think we showed a lot of character to come back into the game and almost snatch a point.

Credit to Steve Bateman for playing 3 up front at the end of the game to try and salvage a point and if Simon Martins free header had hit the target we would have got what we deserved.

I thought we played well today, especially with 10 men against a very good fast passing side.

Adam Logie looks as if he is going to be a very good signing, and there are quite a few positives to take from the game

From the sidelines I did notice the lack of chanting from both sets of supporters.

Usually, we are quite good at loudly getting behind the team, but as Matt said, yesterday it was pretty subdued.
