NEW WEBSITE IS LIVE!

Wellsie

Recommended Posts

The new, improved Margate official club website is available now at http://www.margate-fc.com.

We'll be bringing you further enhancements over the coming weeks. As with any IT project, we can reasonably expect one or two gliches to arise over the next few days, so please bear with us. If you do see something that appears not to be working properly, then please use our new Contact Form. (You'll find it in the Club Info section.)

Yep, the new website is fantastic. Had a bit of a play with it this morning. Two things I would say is that the links are a bit hidden, like for the forum and the history site, and it doesn't fit well on my phone.

Love it though, really well done.

John - to be perfectly honest I forgot about the links until after it had gone live so it was a rush job! I will sort something better out shortly.

Also with with the phone, I tested the site in IE, Firefox, Chrome and via Safari and Opera on my IPhone but had no way to check it on other devices. However, there are tentative plans (in my head) for a mobile version of the main bits such as news, reports and fixtures

Mike - There shouldn't be any blue links on blue backgrounds so can only assume it is a bit of code left from one of the incarnations it went through over the summer. Can you let me know where is it happening and I will try and sort it out.

While I am at it, a couple of other known glitches I am working on..,,,,,

In Internet Explorer, any images that are a link show up with a blue border. I think I have worked out how to fix this.

The alignment in the photo gallery is wrong and also I have had to removed the 'Larger Image' link as it was not working correctly. This is top of my fix list.

I can't see any either but I was getting something similar during development before I (and I'm going to use the words again Steve) cleared my browser cache. Not realted to that possibly is it?

I can explain the dates of birth...because I do not know them for those players I just put random dates in the database and the script on the page is supposed to change it to 'TBA but I obviously got the coding wrong. Easily fixed (I think!).

As for the blue links/blue background situation, I still cannot find where it is happening so if you do get that could you please let me know which page and which browser you are using. Different browsers parse the styling codes differently and what may work in one does not always work the same way in another.

Internet Explorer can be one of the worst for this as it often refuses to accept new coding standards as quickly as the other browsers. For example, Firefox and Chrome will only put a border round an image link if you tell it to. Internet Explorer will put the border there unless you tell it not to!

Just tried it in my version of internet explorer (I use Firefox usually, so much better) and I get the main page headlines coming up as blue on a dark blue background too. Also, 'more upcoming games' followed by 'Wednesday 25th August Croydon...' has somehow disappeared off to the right of the box. Can just make out the first letter on each line of that fixture. The other two fixtures are listed normally.

Design is terrific Steve.

I had a funny feeling it was going to be Explorer. Now I know what I am looking for I will crack on with it this evening. Just to clarify though, is it the page title on the pages or the actual news headlines?

It's just the actual headlines themselves that are in a dark blue box with thick black border. The page titles are no different to other formats I've used (Safari, Firefox).

Congratulations on the new site Steve and all credit to you for the work you put in to it.

I am getting the same as others, on Explorer, and it is the titles of all the items.

Now it makes sense. Dark blue background with a black border was one of the provisional designs although that was to be with White text (the background also had a faded Margate badge to the right but that probably does not show up if the title is not wide enough).

There is something in the styles code that tells the browser to ignore that format but explorer seems to ignore the ignore!!!

Cheers Paul.

I have been testing the site in the latest version of Explorer and everything is fine but it will not allow me to install and older version for testing purposes so I am working a bit blind with this.

I have already made a couple of changes which will hopefully have removed the problem with the titles and and blue blue borders around the images (such as the ones at the bottom of the pages) but need someone to confirm this! You may have to clear the cache to see the changes.

FIXES AND AMENDMENTS IN PLACE

Unwanted blue border around image links in Internet Explorer removed.

Problem with unknown Dates of Birth rectified. Now shows TBA.

Similar problem meaning the Bromley game was not showing in the Fixtures & Results fixed. This means they also now show up in the Cup Opponents on the Opposition page..

Fixed glitch that was causing the reports icon to show up on the Opposition pages for games that have not been played yet.

Links moved out of the 'Fans' menu and given it's own place on the navigation bar and link placed on Site Map.

Newsletter added to 'Fans' and linked placed on Site Map.

THINGS I THINK ARE FIXED!

The problem with the blue background on the titles.

A problem in some versions of Internet Explorer where the upcoming matches were not showing properly.

THINGS I AM WORKING ON RIGHT NOW

Problem with some versions of Internet Explorer that means that the white 'content area' continues beyond the footer.

You may have to clear empty your browsers cache to see the changes. For instructions on how to do this in each browser please follow http://kb.iu.edu/data/ahic.html

As I said before, as it will not let me install an older version of Internet Explorer to test things I cannot see for myself if the problems are solved. If there are still problems with any of these please let me know.
