My first PSF -

positives .. the striker Ishmael looked impressive, was inventive and not afraid to shoot at the goal (don't inderstand why he was brought off at h-t, except to prove to the Management that he is going to be our main source of goals. JT will give us some stability between the sticks, reliable as usual - saving a dubious penalty in the first half. Liked the look of Cloke & Ball in centre defence, better than Haverson & Young, though as the scoreline shows we were not that tight in defence.

negatives .. we were not that tight in defence - Robinson & Lacy are playing too far forward to defend, if the tactics are to be we'll score more than we concede, we're going to need a better strike force.... Dean Grant is not a striker, neither really is Siggy - Jay is playing a more defensive midfield role. Have we given up on Samson King again?

Some questions ... last couple of seasons Wayne Wilson was a fixture in the starting line-up (until he got injured towards the end of the Butler regime), now he doesn't get a look in & the replacements don't seem that better - so, what's the story? Last season in the PSF's - Aaron Beech looked real class, but had fitness issues. He worked the season on his fitness and starred for the Reserves - this season he gets released before the PSF's and signs for the Rams, where he's apparently head & shoulders better than anyone else on the pitch, shouldn't he have at least been offered a trial in the PSF's ? Are we going to sign Ishmael or leave it for someone else to poach him?

Delighted with today(from afar)

You need a serious wake up call before your first proper match-and hopefully today provided exactly that.

Gives them something to work on in the week-and think about before next weekend.

I guess equally-it depends on what ones expectations are for the coming season.

A month ago ,i simply wanted and expected lower mid table ( 14th-16th)

I now think we are capable of finishing about 12th-14th though, and that will do for me this coming season.

You don't realistically go from a relegation team two seasons running to upper half team in just one season

Well after that display this afternoon I do not hold out much for the season. IMO the defence went to sleep to often. The midfield (apart from Sherman) was lethargic at best. The attack did fire on occasions.

Feel really negative Not looking forward to next Saturday at all.

Truth be told that first half we were strong and looked like scoring from all positions, however in all PSF the manager changed things and IMO not for the better as we lost all shape and our attacking format was lost. Im not knocking your indication that we might not win the league, far from it - I will say that the starting line up will punish most if not all of our league oposition and so on that note - IOC good luck and bring on the season of 2010/2011 - CMON U BLUES.

Which replacements are you thinking of Peter? Sherman is head and shoulders above WW as far as I can see, and Marsden is also a better player. Bit surprised Wayne has been retained in truth.

He's looked absolute class in their pre-season games, that I've watched. In fact their whole squad looks very good indeed. IMO

So many of them are Margate's ex-young guns. Every time I watch them they just get better and better, and stronger and stronger. I think they'll gain promotion this season and then due to their ages they'll all be better and stronger, yet again; to take and most probably beat the majority of teams, in the Ryman Premier next season.

Due to the fact that so many of them have played together from youth football right through to senior their all very comfortable in one another's game. A real fluid outfit that at the end of the day are such a good bunch of mates, they play with smiles on their faces, confidence in their game and team spirit in abundance. You could, quite easily, bump into them, in our local recreation parks; kicking a ball around together, because that's what they all love to do.

Yet Margate just seem to knee jerk all the time. How many players and managers have passed through Hartsdown in the last three seasons, say? The nucleus was there but we all just wanted instant results and now they've nearly all found their way across to Southwood. Definately a case of Margate's loss and Ramsgate's gain.

Time will tell though, maybe I'll be proved wrong, but I very much doubt it!

The young players who have left Margate have gone to clubs in lower leagues, not higher. That tells you all you need to know.

Think that comment is a bit harsh as normally the only way young players will get regular games is by going down the levels.

Youngsters get impatient and sometimes they think (and are told) they are better than they are, but those that are willing to listen will stay and serve their 'apprenticeship' and bide their time.

IMO being at a youngster at a club like Margate and training with a higher standard of players and coaches, sitting on the bench and getting the odd game, be it league, cup or ressies is far more beneficial to their development than being a regular at step 4/5/6.

Aaron beech was not released by the club as he was free to do as he wished. Great lad, the look of areal pro. With a bit of luck he will come back again, though capable of a lot higher than Ryman Prem.
