This sounds like an event not to be missed:

A Sporting Chances Charity event for MacMillan

Sunday 12th June 2011 Gates Open 12.00pm Kick Off - 2.00pm

Cockfosters F.C. will host an event, which will see Arsenal Football Club Ex-Pro & Celebrity eleven take on the Sporting Chances select eleven.

Entrance Fee : £5 Adults - £3 Children and O.A.P's (All proceeds to Charity)

This game will be an event not to be missed, within the line-up for Arsenal will include past greats such as Paul Davis who was part of the Arsenal side of the 1980's. Perry Groves who played under, but was also George Graham's first signing at Arsenal. Perry starred for the Gunners in the famous 1989 League winning season which went down to the wire at Anfield, in that dramatic last game of the season, and Mr Ian Wright, who is still looked upon as being one of the greatest goalscorers to walk the planet. Also featuring will be Ralf Little from the TV show "The Royal Family", singer and star of Spandau Ballet, Tony Hadley, cricket legend and winner of Strictly Come Dancing, Mark Ramprakash, film star Robbie Gee, who featured in the hit movies 'Snatch' & 'Mean Machine', and also made a big name for himself in the hit soap 'Desmonds' and many more.

There will be lots going on during the day, including....

Beat the goalie before and at half-time, which includes goalkeepers who will be playing for Sporting Chances, Paul Robinson & his understudy at Blackburn Rovers, Mark Bunn.

Auction/Raffle not to be missed with prizes of boots and shirts signed by the players already mentioned and also many other stars hoping to be in attendance such as Tottenham’s Jermaine Defoe, Chelsea’s Ashley Cole, local Boxing hero and holder of 3 titles, Darren Barker, Basketball legend Loul Deng of the Chicago Bulls, tickets to top flight Premier League games for Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and so much more.

A top football freestyle tricks show presented by the legends of Sky’s Soccer AM, Tubes & Rocket, including the stars of the hit movie ’In the Hands of the Gods’, Tottenham’s residential trickster, Billy ‘the wiz’ Wingrove and Nike freestyle champion Colin Nell.

B.B.Q, Greek B.B.Q., Hot Dog stalls and the Cockfosters F.C. bar for all your drinks as well as stalls around the ground supplying refreshments.

And so much more.

Why a charity fund raiser?.....

Sadly, over the course of the last couple of years, four close friends have lost their Mums in tragic circumstances and in the case of three of them, MacMillan Nurses have provided the care and support for which they are widely known:

This charity day is dedicated to the memory of these Mums and their families, who live within our local community.

We would like as many people as possible to come along and enjoy the day with us at Cockfosters, in order to raise as much money as we possibly can, so as to give something back to those people who provided much needed help and support during very emotional times.

As you are a charity case on your own Rhodes maybe with your coat of many colours you can stand there with your begging bowl and maybe raise a few quid for yourself

Despite the dreadful weather on Sunday, the day was a tremendous success. In excess of 1200 people came to Chalk Lane on Sunday and over the weekend a total of £10,000 was raised for MacMillan Nurses. The football club didn't do bad either.

Expectations by Mr. Rhodes of a "total washout" were clearly some way off the mark. Congratulations to all those who organised and attended the event.

Yes, many congratulations, anybody would think that I was doing a rain dance on Sunday but I certainly wasn't

I see that there are some pictures on this site of the proceedings at Chalk Lane from 12 June, it doesn't actually look that wet however there are quite a few umbrella's up if you look carefully:
