Following several posts by yours truly last season, I am sure that many of you will be agog to learn of the progress of my adopted home town club, Brighouse Town. Well, this Town secured promotion from the Koolsport Northern Counties East League Div One (step 6) at the second attempt last season, finishing runners-up to Tadcaster. The season included an incredible run of 13 or 14 (I'll check!) successive wins.

Town started the new season in the Premier Div, Step 5 and thus only one behind ETFC, with a 3-0 home win against Pickering in front of 108. Last night however they lost 3-2, to a last minute goal, away to AFC Farsley in the President's Cup (some sort of League Cup). Farsely are firm favourites for the title, and won 8-2 away on Saturday, so a good start at the new level.

On Saturday we have our first ever appearance in the FA Cup. I'll be nipping round there straight after the Spurs game on the telly! Maybe the two Towns will meet in a later round.......

The ground (the Dual Seal Stadium no less) is coming along. The only down side is that Town play in orange shirts and black shorts......

Good luck to both Towns for 2010-11! (Huddersfield look good for promotion too!)

Good stuff, Invis. Keep us updated. Shame about that kit, though!

Strangely enough (or not so strange, if you know me) I know a song about Brighouse: Roger Davies' Brighouse on a Saturday Night. "Say what you like, there's nothing quite like Brighouse on a Saturday night"

FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round: Brighouse Twn AFC 1 Dunston UTS 2. Att. 200.

Well it wasn't to be, Brighouse had a goal disallowed and pressed for an equalizer at the end but in truth Dunston were the stronger side physically, that bit quicker to the ball, tactically astute and could certainly play a bit as well. It was 2-0 at half time and could have even been one or two more, so overall a fair result, and an enjoyable game in the sunshine with a good crowd of 200 (a suspiciously round number). Dunston were good sports, generously presenting an engraved silver salver after the game, to commemorate Brighouse's first appearance in the FA Cup. (They also generously offered a good deal of advice ot the ref and assistants as well, qiote unneccesarily as they were good enough without all that nonsense). I failed to win the raffle (I did once) but found a bloke wearing a Spurs shirt at half time! Best of luck to Dunstion in the forthcoming rounds.

I felt a bit odd actually. Firstly the Town programme is called "Talk of the Town" bringing back memories of the similarly-named EFC fanzine! The Dunston played in white shirts and blue shorts....... and as I say Brighouse play in orange/black!

The sad news is that tomorrow night's home league game (v Lincoln Moorlands Railway) is postponed due to a fire in the bar and public toilets (actually they're done-up portacabins). This occurred in the small hours, so unless there was an electrical fault one can only assume the local little sh1tes are responsible. Youthful high spirits and scampery, maybe a bit near the mark sometimes, is to be expected, but one is close to despair sometimes at the mindlessness of some these semi-evolved halfwits.

Come on the Towns!
