Game off 10th august (yes in august)

Recommended Posts

Not the best start to a seson i'll admit, and I was certainly as disappointed as anyone else.

However, after hearing from one of the ground workers about how waterlogged it was, and having witnessed their hard work on the pitch over this hot summer, I respect their decision to call it off.

Postponing this early in a season will attract flack I know and accept, but listening to what has been said it couldn't be helped.

Are Ground Workers allowed to call games off.i was always told you have to call a local Referee to do this? Have the rules changed?

I hope this get's looked into, as it seems the rules were not followed if "Ground Workers" called it off.

Witham are the first club to quote rules and the FA when things do not go their way.

We trained on Tuesday over a local park which has had no work done, it had rained all day and while training it was torrential, yet the playing surface held up.

If however a ref called it off I will offer my apologies.

I will break my own self instated ban on here, to put a few of you right. Richard disappointed you didnt check the facts before jumping on the bandwagon.

Our Charirman followed all the rules and contacted the local referee who perormed a pitch inspection and the game was called off and everyone who needed to be informed were informed by 5pm to save Bethnal Green a wasted journey, as has been previously posted the A12 was closed and the flooding in mid to north essex was that bad, a point for Buzzard boy, our club worked tirelessly during the summer working on the pitch and re-seeding it all.

Disapointed in the league, they wish for us not to comment about the league and member clubs on our forum, threatening warnings, but are happy to sit back and watch a member club get crucified when our club followed all the rules and they are fully aware of it. We were told all clubs will be treated the same. I have seen no evidence of this. Football Man, why were these people not given warnings, if it is good for us surely the same rules apply.

I look forward to receiving the apology promissed by NeverBeen.

I will not respond on here to any further posts unless our club are unjustly criticised and the forum police fail to act.

after a halfhour downpour around 4pm parts of the pitch had surface water ,looking at the forcast a ref was called, whilst waiting around the rain stopped upon hes arrivel it poured again leaving surface water on parts of the pitch maimly around the middle the ball would not role in parts of the pitch and with the forcast of more rain it was called off.

with the very dry spell we have all had the ground like most grounds cannot soak it up quick enough its to hard ,if a ball cannot roll because of water the game will not start ,the away team did not have a wasted trip and will be played again next tuesday.

common sense

WA WTFC i wasnt jumping on any bandwagon just stating the facts about postponements, the night wasnt totally wasted for BGU as they popped along to watch our match at Sawbo which was played in persistantly heavy rain, should point out that the match wont be replayed next Tuesday is theres a FA Cup replay.

Good grief!

When I said that those that worked on the ground decided to call it off maybe I should have said that after talking to them the following morning they thought it wasn't good enough to play and I would have to agree with them for reasons stated earlier.

Can only assume that a ref somehow got involved and decide to call it off himself. OK?

I get the feelin'there's one or two out there on Witham's case an lookin'for a reason to get stuck in!!!! Can't think why.
