Was Sam groombridge involved today ?

I am sure it has been said before but Sam is out for 3 weeks due to injury sustained at Dover.

But I hope you all noticed Sam Groombridge was there supporting the team, even though he's injured, and it was only a friendly, and he lives north Kent. I bet he'll also be there at Hartsdown Park for the next two friendlies.

This is the kind of spirit we've got at MFC.

Don't forget PSF are exactly what they say, and there can many reasons why systems, players, positions, moves, seem odd to us as spectators.

I know Iain and the team will be in the best possible shape come the start of the season.

Never realised he got injured.

Hope no-one else sustains any injuries in the psf's.

I wonder if IOC intends/has funding to sign anyone else before start of season-Ishmail and/or Waugh for example.

It does seem that we need some sort of alternative up front.

With their experience-you can understand maybe pinnock/tait/sigere holding back a bit in the psf's, but you would like to think that they would have turned up/turned it on in at least one game just to show what they can do;but from what i've read-it appears non have sparkled in any game at all;so you do start to wonder what actually they can do these days ?

still the league is a different matter, and some players shine through more in the winter months.

A few years ago,Mckimm was useless from august until november, then when the going got tough, winter set in ,pitches got sticky, he shined through and was magnificent for the rest of the season.

Is it just wishful thinking that may equally apply to sigere, pinnock and tait ?

Appalling refereee.Gave then two hand ball decisions which led to two of their goals.Hand ball from nigh on point blank range. No player lifted his hand or arm & in both cases the ball HIT the arm or hand rather than hand moving toward ball. We had two penalty decisions not given.First one the ref had his whistle half way up to blow but put it down again.Their first goal was well taken though but an appalling chest down by Marsden which went a yard in front of him only allowed them to shoot & score.Again a well taken goal BUT thats all Whitstable did.

Now,we were poor today though we dominated second half possession. We need that poke desperately up front. Its not happening up there.

Ball control & shooting were asbysmal today especially the shooting at goal.Very very tame indeed.

As for Saunders red card AFTER the final whistle.Well, that just summed up the referee today. He must be feeling highly embarrassed after all that.

He probably didnt want to be TOLD how bad he was & how biased he "seemed" to be. This is not sour grapes by the way.

I would suggest we forget this game as soon as possible & we should think back to the positives from the friendlies prior to todays game.

However we will get tonked by teams in our division if we play like we did today, again.

There were some good individual performances having said all that despite not looking very good on the day as a team.

Wholeheartedly agree with Cookie - But in fairness the blues played against 12 men (one of em was in black). In truth the first half was a non-plussed affair with the Oysters being gifted two "very" controversial decisions which led to their goals, however we still look ineffective up front and Ismail was tame with his long range efforts. Alan Tait looks to be half a yard off the pace and seems to give up too quickly for my liking. On a plus side Darren Marsden looks quality and is always looking to make space for himself and his passing is always "attacking" minded (took his goal brilliantly BTW). The first half really was a scrappy game and was probably a hint for IOC to change things for the beginning of the second half..... nope WW limped on for the second half and continued to back out of challenges and cause absolutely no danger to the opposite side (only my opnion), it wasnt until about the 55th minute IOC made 4 or 5 changes ongroup and although we seemed to take the game to the opposition we were still ineffective up front, need to sort that out pretty damn quick. The Referee was absolutely terrible and really should be reported to the FA for his abysmal side in this incident ridden game, Im not taking the result away from Whitstable as they took their goals well (3nd was Whisker I think ) but I saw James Pinnock felled in their penalty area NOTHING GIVEN then he was in a headlock whilst trying to move for a pass NOTHING GIVEN and the referee then gives a straight RED CARD to our Captain Jay for airing his views (after the final whistle) IOC and JK and most of the management staff tried to reason with the man in black but he stood resolute in his opinion that the card should stand and now Jay Saunders could possibly face a 35 day ban..... All in all a bad day for the gate but we have promising signs.

Jamie Turner 7/10

Aaron Lacey 8/10

Curtis Robinson 8/10

Lawrence Ball 7/10

Craig Cloke 8/10

Tommy Osbourne 7/10

Jay Saunders 7/10

Wayne Wilson 4/10

Darren Marsden 9/10

Alan Tait 5/10

Ismail ...... 7/10

Subs

Jean M Siguere 6/10

Dean Grant 6/10

Etienne 7/10

Aussie Fella cant remember name of 7/10

James Pinnock 7/10 (if only for being able to keep his cool whilst being wrestled 99% of the time)

Pretty much agree with that assessment but didnt think Wayne Wilson was that bad

Was really impressed with Marsden and thought Tait was just, well awful and thats putting it politely, I cant stand players who give up the chase and moan, and he does it far too often

Just need that cutting edge up front and I think the team is a play off contender

Deffo need one more up front , personally i would cancel Taits contract and give it to Ismail but we do need one more up front as i don`t think Sigere is going to be a 90min man and for every game of this season but im glad he is back because his vast experience will be crucial to the lads on the pitch . Who is around at this time of the season though .

I think that with the budget we seem to have we now have a "decent" strikeforce including Tait who i.m.o. will come good as will Ismail. He too will improve his accuracy.Waugh & Ethienne-Clarke look promising recruits too. Another striker & a midfielder would be helpful of course but if we have spent up already I can see these players getting us goals in time. Its just not happening at the moment and they arent gelling. Maybe Tait isn't sure of where he is supposed to be playing at the moment.Seems that way to me & that won't be helping him .Better to miss chances in friendlies but then put them away when the real matches start. I'm sure they will.

On Saturday I felt we were lacking a paceman going at their defence, someone to really frighten them silly. Ismail & Ethienne-Clarke are our speediest players yet lack a little know how in how to attack & pass defenders at the moment.

Following the post mortem of the Whitstable match the most pressing worry for me is how does the sending off of Jay Saunders affect his availability. Does a straight red in a friendly work the same way as a league match (3 match suspension) or did I read it is timebound. I suspect there is no right of appeal presuming the ref was FA qualified! Does anybody know how long he will be out?

Iain O'Connell appeared to be intimating to the Referee that his action with the red card would be a 5 week suspension for Jay.

Why would that be ?

Surely it is on games and so maximum (unless he had previous) is 3 games; and as far as i recall, there is nothing hanging over JS from last season-so where does this 5 week thing come from ?

35 days it is then.

I can't see how we can win an appeal ,as if ref sent him off he did;and does not seem grounds to get it overturned,no matter how unjust it may seem.

Only chance i guess is if the ref admits he made a mistake/was over zealous-which seems unlikely -and whatever went on before-does not justify being abusive at the end.

I wonder when the 35 days starts from-is it league season-which seems inconsistent as if it was 'league rules-it would be 3 game ban-so wonder if the suspension starts straight away-i'e today-which effectively means only 3 weeks of the main season.

Pain in butt though with games coming thick and fast in early part of season-five weeks at start of season is virtually a quarter of the season gone in terms of games !!
