Whitstable

Appalling refereee.Gave then two hand ball decisions which led to two of their goals.Hand balls from nigh on point blank range. No player lifted his hand or arm & in both cases the ball HIT the arm or hand rather than hand moving toward ball. We had two penalty decisions not given.First one the ref had his whistle half way up to blow but put it down again. The second one to be fair the referee allowed an advantage (or I think he did or was he just not going to blow for us anyway) The resulting shot at goal was very very tame indeed.

Their first goal was well taken it has to be said but an appalling chest down by one of our players, which went a yard in front of him, only allowed them to shoot & score. Again a well taken goal BUT thats practically all Whitstable did all game. A hand full of efforts in total & 3 goals but I suppose thats the name of the game. Score more goals than your opponents no matter how you get them or are offered them or how much you are being dominated,possession-wise.

Now,we were poor today even though we dominated second half possession.

We need that umph desperately up front. Its not happening up there.

Ball control & shooting were asbysmal today especially the shooting at goal.Very very tame indeed.

As for Saunders red card AFTER the final whistle.Well, that just summed up the referee today. He must be feeling highly embarrassed after all that.

He probably didnt want to be TOLD how bad he was & how biased he "seemed" to be.(He knew without being told I'm sure). This is not sour grapes by the way.

I would suggest we forget this game as soon as possible & we should think back to the positives from the friendlies prior to todays game.

However we will get tonked by teams in our division if we play like we did today, again.

There were some good individual performances having said all that despite not looking very good on the day as a team.

Wholeheartedly agree with Cookie - But in fairness the blues played against 12 men (one of em was in black). In truth the first half was a non-plussed affair with the Oysters being gifted two "very" controversial decisions which led to their goals, however we still look ineffective up front and Ismail was tame with his long range efforts. Alan Tait looks to be half a yard off the pace and seems to give up too quickly for my liking. On a plus side Darren Marsden looks quality and is always looking to make space for himself and his passing is always "attacking" minded (took his goal brilliantly BTW). The first half really was a scrappy game and was probably a hint for IOC to change things for the beginning of the second half..... nope WW limped on for the second half and continued to back out of challenges and cause absolutely no danger to the opposite side (only my opnion), it wasnt until about the 55th minute IOC made 4 or 5 changes ongroup and although we seemed to take the game to the opposition we were still ineffective up front, need to sort that out pretty damn quick. The Referee was absolutely terrible and really should be reported to the FA for his abysmal side in this incident ridden game, Im not taking the result away from Whitstable as they took their goals well (3nd was Whisker I think ) but I saw James Pinnock felled in their penalty area NOTHING GIVEN then he was in a headlock whilst trying to move for a pass NOTHING GIVEN and the referee then gives a straight RED CARD to our Captain Jay for airing his views (after the final whistle) IOC and JK and most of the management staff tried to reason with the man in black but he stood resolute in his opinion that the card should stand and now Jay Saunders could possibly face a 35 day ban..... All in all a bad day for the gate but we have promising signs.

Danny scored Whitstables first goal and it came about by him nicking the ball off Saunders near the half way line and running at goal he bent it into the top corner from 20 yards

Thought Sauders was the best player on the park today and as everyone else has said the ref was a F-ing joke.

That said didnt see much difference in class today considering the difference in wages and Margate do need a strick force.

We dominated possession, especially in the second half, but conceded three goals. Didn't do enough with the ball ourselves for my liking. Generally slow and rather predictable going forward, but things definitely picked up when Grant and Etienne-Clark came on. Still, hopefully a bit of a wake-up call.

I think all of the comments on here so far pretty much sum up today's match. One additional comment though - I have seen all of the away PSFs so far and Whitstable has been the only club to have a programme on sale. As far as I recall we didn't provide a programme for the Sittingbourne match but I didn't attend that one anyway.

Whitstable's effort is worth noting.

Josh Winchcombe is missing from the above list and deserves a mention. Thought he added more threat down the left and gave Keiron Morris a bit more to think about. He was clearly getting a lot of advice from the senior players and performed well

Agreed on all counts there Tony and Whistable do look to have a team of good players set up for the season ahead. On a lighter note Keiron Morris did say that he was gonna kick Curtis off theball given any chance he got ... rivalry there then methinks :)

Agree with previous comments. Dominated possession but could not create enough chances uo front.. Ismail has pace but needs more composure. The strike force looks toothless and not sure of the positions we finished with. Grant up fromt (seemed to play in several positioms today but feel wingback is his best) clarke out wide but thought he was better against Sittingbourne coming through more central position, Despite losing 3 goals - 2 disgraceful decisions by officials who were on first name terms with Whitstable players and club officials! - the defence looks good although our Wing backs may need to be more cautious against stronger opposition , If Saunders is banned as a result of the debacle at the end there is no justice, Surely we should not participate in psfs if the officials are not impartial. It may have only been 4 quid to get in but I did expect a fair match.

Do not like to see any cards for friendlies but, thought kieron's first tackle on Curtis on, another day could have resulted in a broken leg and should have been accompanied with a card.
