Scores - First Day

Recommended Posts

Egham Town 1 Mole Valley SCR 4. Five seasons on the spin without an opening day win. Egham played Grave, Pomroy and Barrance up front and it looked good in the first half with some lovely touches and quick breaks. Just before the half ended Taylor Mollatt took a long ball from defence, with three MV players offside, and knocked the ball in for Nehemiah Adams to score. Early in the second half we went two down as the same scorer took a chance made by Mollatt and it was three after 72 mins when Richard Smith forced Justin Gray to make the best save of the game then turn the rebound in. (Second best was from Anthony Guiney, diving to his right to stop Mollatt scoring an o.g.) There was an immediate reply from Matt Grave after a scramble in the box but a penalty with five minutes left (scored by Phil Page) put the tin hat on it. MV played with a good pace and an infuriatingly tight offside trap that kept catching our forwards out. So much for my prediction of a 3-1 win! Still, at least it is not as bad as 0-7... Not sure if we were pony or if MV are a decent side. Best if Mr Baker comments on that. For sure we were second best too often.

I think it was a case of Mole Valley turned up and we did not.

There is always a shock result on the first day just never thought it would be us !

Really disapointing performance, after the Uxbridge and Beaconsfield games. For me they worked harder and had more desire. (not like us)

I do however think 4-1 was not a fair relection of the game and the first goal was a mile off side and the 4th penalty was a poor decision.

No excuses though as Mole Valley were deserved winners on the day.

The only other dissapointment of the day was a particluar Egham fan effing and jeffing at me and telling me to sort this sh*t out

Some peolpe have very short memories!

I wish we had a game tomorrow night as after a poor defeat you want to bounce straight back.

However a hard session without the ball may do the trick. Not a disaster just a bad start.

Cheers

Steve

Our lads looked sharp agaisnt Epsom saturday, we made epsom look average by hard work and passing it around them. Young team, alot of pace and even Gareth Rapley is scoring!!

Roll on tuesday vs Cove...

P.s Sandhurst Reserves lost too oh i mean Farnham:excited:

Welcome Kent. I have an idea of who you are, but we'll see.

Where was Borg for Epsom?

Excellent start to the season but it s a Snickers not a sprint...

Borgy was suspended for one game as a result of his handball outside the area at Guildford last season. Although Harrowing did well, I would expect Borg to return to the starting line up at Croydon.

Thought Sandhurst worked very hard, but it is frustrating that our players do not seem to learn that other teams won't just roll over because we pass the ball well for fifteen minutes, as it's often sideways with limited penetration. We have some really good players right now, but consistency was an issue last season and it looks like it might be again.

Interesting to note that of the smart money predictions for the top five teams "who could win the league" this year, only Chertsey won and the other four all lost!

Another worry for me Ed was that when the tide started to turn you guys started having a pop at the officials over everything.

Borg would have saved the first that is for sure.

Yet to decide. I have been asked not to play for Bracknell so I do not cup-tie myself, but if I go with Sandhurst, I will only be on the bench. At the same time, I have only ever played three FA Cup ties, drawn 1 and lost 2, and the body clock is against me.

I'd like to think most goalkeepers would have stopped the first one. Saying that though, the Epsom goalie played well and made some good blocks.

Interesting game at Molesey and a result that did not look liklely after 20 minutes. Cambo used their system quite well during that period and had the lion's share of the game, whilst not really creating the chances that this perhaps should have done. We cleared one off the line from a corner, although good discipline defence-wise, and a decent save from Mark Daniels. Other than that, no real penetration but it did seem possible that a goal may come. This did happen, but came our way after the game had settled down with a great strike from our skipper which our subs - warming up - said keeper made great save from, but rebounded off the bar and was cooly slotted home by our striker who took a knock for his efforts. During the enforced break we changed system to our normal one and the game swung our way. After half time we would continue to be the more dominant force but Cambo have some decent players and, at only 1-0, the game was always in the balance. Another off the line at 1-0 from same defender on same post (remember lads, do your job!) whilst we had two come back off the post and had two poor efforts from good situations. We finally caught them on the break with two very good goals that sealed what in the end was a deserved victory. I agree that 3-0 may be a bit harsh, but we'll take it and on the chances created we are looking at goal potential of 8-4 in our favour. Good to get that one out of the way as Cambo will be one of the better sides, they just seemed to lack a bit of cohesion on the first day, and this may be expected with what seems quite a few new faces. A long way to go for all of us and I am sure that the midweek results may give some sides a reality check with others getting a big confidence booster after a slap in the face this weekend. One thing for sure - we watched them and knew their system, so adapted to allow for this, but although our reports were spot on it did not really suit us on the day and we were so much better sticking to our style, as the performance and result in the second period showed. You live and learn, and have to take into account the opposition, but sometimes it's best to stick to what is best for you and trust the players to perform. I think this is a fair reflection of the game and we are just pleased to get what appeared - and was - a tough opener out of the way, take the three points, and avoid yet another rubbish first day result!
