Tonight's game finished Colliers Wood 2 v 4 Guildford City, excellent pitch,Large crowd,I paid many did not,met many old friends.Officials had a good game for 87 minutes, then a 10 man brawl ensued, the 2 Assistants stayed well clear, and never helped the Ref. out.The Players from both sides were a DISGRACE,PUNCHES THROWN,PLAYERS ASSAULTED,then have the audacity to surround the Ref., complaining about 3 Yellows he had dished out,one was then shown another yellow and dismissed.A total disgrace to c.c.l.football, hold your heads in shame you Colliers Wood and Guildford City Players,Park football is where you belong,Ref. 9 out of 10.Rant over.

Shock Guildford being involved in something like that, the times I saw them last season every game resulted in a Guildford red card and numerous bookings, manager belongs in pub football so no surprise his players act like they do.

Surrey a bit harsh your comments regarding the manager at Guildford. A very good friend of mine and I can hand on heart say that in all the years I have known him and managed against he's teams never once has there been or close to being any trouble. As for pub football that is just a ridiculous statement. To my knowledge he has managed at Farleigh, Carshalton and Croydon athletic before he went to Guildford and transformed them last season and has also managed to attract some of the best players in that league via his past clubs. Everyone entitled to an opinion 'Finest' think you may be wrong with that one though!

Who is the Guildford manager?

Is just my opinion and I agree that they have some excellent players, I saw 4 of their games last season and the captain was one of the best players I have seen at this level. Discipline is why they won't win anything though, and that comes from manager and his assistant. Each game they had a player sent off, each game the manager or his assistant were either asked to leave the technical area or warned as to their behaviour. The pub team comment comes from some of the embarrassing comments and behavior from these people.

Agreed Smudge takes two to tango as they say and am sure CWU played their part

A very brief report here.

Smudge, nice to meet you tonight.

More time to talk on another day OK?

However, your description would give the impression of an over physical game, which it certainly was not!

There were a few iffy tackles but the referee, mostly, had complete control, although both assistants weren't at their best!

The result was bad for us but not a disaster. we will go on from here.

The "gate" was 151 tonight and, as far as we are aware everyone paid. If not, then good luck to them! We sold all 120 programmes!

I counted 12 CCL team managers at the game and a few from the Ryman.

anyone sceptical of Friday night footy on the odd occasion please take note!

Two things.

City captain (Cooper I think) was superb.

CWUFC won the fair play award last season.

There are many worst "mobs" than us!

Chris no where in my remarks did I mention a physical game,it was a very enjoyable game.Honest Endeavour by both sides,6 goals, some decent Football played. Many a time on here I have defended the players against over the Top Refs, but never again. The Ref could of dished out 4 straight REDS,but with no help from his nearest Lino,he probably did not see half of what went on.You state who was their at the match, did you forget to mention C.C.L. Committee Members present,a showpiece game ruined by a few thugs, will the casual supporter return ,I think not, the actions displayed last night, can be seen any Sunday at a Park near you.

I referee Sunday League and in general have seen worse behaviour at CCFL so far, sadly. Note that this behaviour is still in the minority! That said, most of my Sunday games are veterans so a bit more sedate. They generally self-police dodgy tackles ("I've got to work in the morning, you idiot!").

I couldn't make this game, sadly. With regard to the Assistants, note that the referee may have briefed them to stay clear and just observe in the event of a mass confrontation so that all the angles are covered (Think: triangle) and to try and stop the benches from spilling onto the pitch. That could be why they weren't wading in with the flags!

That is just supposition but based on the typical briefings I've received at CCFL games. Have yet to have anything go above handbags though!

friday night games should be brought in more often in my opinion. Would have to be a shortish journey for the away team though as Friday night traffic is not great.

There are many pros to a friday night match but i cant think of many cons....

Can you??

Pros...

more spectators, more gate money, more programmes sold.

players get to go out on a friday night on the lash for once.

players can get to watch their mates in other teams play.

players can get to watch other teams in the ccl or maybe even plan ahead and watch their favourite premiership team. ( i know i would love to go watch Liverpool play on a free saturday)

managers have a free saturday to scout players

Cons....??????

Have mentioned it to the powers that be at Cove and hopefully we can sort at least 1friday fixture this season

A good game to kick off the new CCL season and an honest match report from Colliers Wood there!

Happy to be able to say 'we are top of the league' for the time being at least, and especially pleased since we were missing some decent first team players - Banton-Brown, de Freitas, Penson, Camara, Guilford, Bradnick etc. Can safely say that CWU look a better side than last year too!

Not sure I agree with Smudge - I thought the game was played in a pretty good spirit. There was one moment in the first half where a CWU striker lost it having been tackled well while through on goal. I believe he was also involved in the incident at the end. Sounds (and looked) as though he took offence to being tackled once again and struck out at our young centre back. Naturally this wasn't best received and some handbags followed. Not that our players were by any means angels but, Mr 'SurreysFinest', had you been there you would have been able to clearly hear our manager shouting "step away, don't get involved, leave it" etc. He's not the man you make him out to be. There were some discipline problems at the start of last season but that improved throughout the year, and towards the end of the season we went quite a significant number of weeks without receiving even a single caution, let alone red card. It's just a case of trying to carry that into this season, which I'm sure we will do. One 'second yellow' does not a monster make.

It's just a bit frustrating that an incident in the very last moments of the game can mar what was actually a very entertaining game!

No problem with the occasional Friday night game, but would hate it if a club switched all their games to Friday nights. Always used to feel sorry for the Tranmere & Stockport fans when all their home games were on a Friday night. I realise why they did it, but must have been awful if you were a home season ticket holder. In the distant past I remember Torquay used to play their home games on Saturday evenings at 7.30!

The match last night makes it easy for the officials, then.

Stamp-down hard from the first whistle.

Maybe a few reds and yellows in the opening few games will set a decent standard for the rest of the season.

Couldn't agree with you more. We played them last year at their place and the mangers behavior as well as his players was a complete disgrace.

The lack of respect he showed a fellow manger by shouting out "cmon boys this lot are shxt " and continually laughing and goading my players was somthing i had not experienced.

He then went one step further and played a big part in getting one of my players sent of. (then laughed and admitted he should't have been)

Dont get me wrong i am no angel but there is a line you dont cross. We all have the odd verbal but this was something i would expect to see on park football.

His players were exactly the same, when they were 3-0 up the players in the dugout were laughing at my players as well as giving them plenty of abuse for no reason.

I am sure this is not the first punch up they have had and i am sure it wont be the last.

Anyway we have got them on Saturday in the FA Cup so i am sure i will find out.

Cheers

Steve
