Hendon 1 Hornchurch 0

This was a big day for Hornchurch Football Club and one which three years ago would not have seemed possible.

Hendon, who finished third in the Ryman Premier Division last season, are strongly fancied to do well this season and so it was never going to be an easy task to overcome them. A lone goal was all it took to take the points but we certainly ended up regretting the many spurned chances, especially those in the first half. Steve West and Keith Rowlands sent efforts over the bar in the early minutes and, after John Keeling cleared off the line, another brace of chances went begging, Adam Locke shooting over and Steve West not quite getting enough power on a header from a Keeling cross to beat home keeper Dave King. In the last five minutes keeper Daniel Gay, making his debut for us, made a superb point blank save from a bullet header, closely followed by an Andrew Martin header from a Scott Gooding free kick which went over the bar.

Another chance went over early on in the second half, this time Jamie Southon from a Keith Rowland free kick but we didn't quite have the same spark that we had in the first half, and Hendon enjoyed most of the possession. Gay made another great save on the hour, a tip over from a Steve Butler header, but could not stop the winning goal, a well taken 18 yard strike from Eugene Ofori in the 82nd minute, whose chance came quite fortuitously after a tackle from Ollie Adedeji dispossessed a Hendon striker

Line-up:- Gay, Gooding, Kimble (John Martin 45), Adedeji, Marsden, Southon, Keeling, Locke, West, Andrew Martin (Finlay 71), Rowland. Subs not used:- Jones, Cowley, Collier (GK).

not to far off as usual Robbie....but just a few points...

firstly the negatives....

the pitch was diabolical....

the home officials were abusive....(surprising)

the whole ground is a [****!!****] hole...

they play Div 1 up and under football....

now the positives...

they were....

big and strong at the back...

speedy and sharp up front....

well motivated by 'foul mouth' who makes GB sound like mother teresa..(no...not the irish manager who wasn't on the bench...)..the pseudo coach with the gob on it.....

and the game.....

well...first half to us and a shitload of wasted chances....

second half to them....and a goal....poor from our point of view...

verdict on Hendon...well....

this lot wont win anything this year with the long ball....but.....

they were better today at it than we were...we held it on the bumpy pitch for 80 minutes but something had to give....

no complaints....they probably edged it in the second.....

we're on our way....better to come....

its gonna be a long hard season....

lets hope the rest of our away visits are to better places than this sh*tip......

come back tilbury...we love you..... <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
