Drew 1-1

Not too inspiring! McDonnell missed a pen but we were allowed to retake it and Graham smashed home - they got a penalty about 15 mins from time.

Can't remember any other noteworthy shots on goal.

The team to my memory was

GK - Wilmot

DF - Gledhill

DF - Smith

DF - Campbell

DF- Brown

RM - Graham

LM - Oakes

CM - Castle

CM - Somebody Else

SC - McDonell

SC - De Souza

Somebody Else

For Somebody Else, read Wraight.

This was not good. However, in saying that, the two main problems we appear to have are not insurmountable, as long as they are urgently addressed.

Nic McDonnell will do well for us but he cannot do it alone and neither can he do it without decent service. The central midfield was a total shambles and the sooner Glynn and Deacon are playing there, the better. Glynn may not be fully fit but there is just no excuse whatsoever for leaving Deacon on the bench. We need a ball winner, who knows how to hold on to it and can also pass it around a bit. We do have one of them. Can we use him please?

We now come to the second problem - indiscipline. The indiscipline shown by certain players towards the end of this game was a disgrace. I am just amazed we only picked up three yellow cards in the period and that nobody was sent off. This was reminiscent of certain occurrences that took place in the 2001/2 season. This needs stamping out and stamping out right now or we are going to find ourselves in serious trouble.

Wilmot, Gledhill and Graham were the real only positives to come out of the game with Martin, who came on for about the last 20 minutes but did manage to create some unrest in the Carshalton defence during that period.

One other item of note - JC was MOM for Aldershot in their 5-2 win at Telford. Did we really have to let him go?

No we didn't so I don't know why we did <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

As for "Somebody else" just shows what a game they had (in Challinors position)

Hi Woody.

It certainly wasn't good, was it? I read the Carshalton report in the NLP. Entertaining? End to end? He was at a different game.

It was difficult to find much that was positive from that one. Wraight is a very talented player, selected in the correct position on Saturday but, after a bright start, he had an off day. At 37, I assume that Castle's primary role is to lead the midfield and generally direct affairs. The number of balls in the second half that Carshalton won unchallenged in the middle was remarkable.

I don't know anything about football but I assume that McDonnell was injured when replaced by Simon. I expected Greg and/or Glynn to come on for the last 20 minutes.

There certainly was too much that was reminiscent of the last few months of last season. Still. Early days. Plenty of time to sort it out. Bring on the mighty Ford United!
