Enfield Town 1 Basildon 4

Recommended Posts

A result like this, was unfortunatly on the cards after our pre-season performances.

poor defending and a lack of penertration up-front.

Alan Fenn had a nightmare.

With Rids and Quinn comeing back soon...It will leave Brotherton and Gant,to contest a place in the defence, with Snowden and Hall....I don't think Jim can justify playing Alan, at the moment.

Basidon were solid and workmenlike, but hardly a team that would have troubled us last season.

Brotherton,Negus, and maybe Allen played alright....But that was it.

The ref was not only incompetent ,but lazy....Having said that,we coped with that standard of refereeing last season.

I know the recent weather conditions probably had a lot to do with it, but the pitch was in a vey poor condition......IS it not in the bounds of posibility, to use sprinklers to water the pitch...because as it stands,it's almost unplayable....and WILL cost us points.(i'm not blaiming Roy,as i know he put a lot of hard work in,on the pitch, but without it being watered ,the benifits will not be seen).

I think it will test Jim's Managment skills to turn this around, but i have every confidence he will do so....And by the time we play Basildon away,we will give them a beating, they so richly deserve.

Was not all doom and gloom; the score line flatters them; but as Champions to be beaten @ home on the opening day, well not good.

On another day we would easily had a couple of more goals and it would all be a bit different.

Having seen a couple of the pre-season games I was concerned about the lack of fire power; today we seem slow at the back....

Agree Jim has a lot to do; but I'm sure he can and will; now onto the next game

I seem to remember a comment from your manager about a pitch in Southend being diabolical. This can only make yours like playing on the moon. It was the worst pitch I have seen in the league ever. Even East Ham was better.

Should have spent money of the pitch instead of building your lovely green fence. It some places they had been mixing concrete for the fence posts. Shame your defence wasn't as solid

Unfortunately your team is just not good enough this year !

Spent a lot of money on the facilties but forgot about the team. Ask why your best players have left. Too many promises!

Buzz Buzz Buzz

Agreed , the pitch was awful.

Let's see who's on top ,at the end of the season.......No Essex senior league team has ever finished above Enfield town,i'm glad your so confident it will happen this season,BB.....How many times have Man Utd been writen off, after a poor start to the season, only to come through at the end.

BB...Our best players are still with us,along with many new signings.....Our top gaol-scorer from last season has been shown the door,we also had 2 players retire.

But don't forget we still have nearly every player, from last season, that thrashed Ilford 7-0.

You Basildon boys really do have an over-confidence complex.....Don't forget 75% of your players come from a team that finished fouth last season, whilst the remainder(ie..Basildon players) finished sixteenth.

Last seasons results are fish and chip paper. It now what matters.

Did you show the door to Danny Alleyne as well. Is Jim Chandler fergie in disguise and can get rid of his best players and still do well ?

Seems like you need a lot more than you've got to beat an egg!

Also your homework gets 2/10. Indeed a number of players came from the team you most hate including the best keeper outside of the Ryman but also a forward that not only got 20 goals for Basildon last year but started with a hat trick this year as well.

Put together with a forward who finshed 2nd in the scoring table with 25, one from Maldon Town who has played Ryman Premier and top young player from Burnham and more in the locker it doesn't look to bad.

We will see.

By the way if you don't fiinsh in the top two you won't qualify to go up will you ?

Right.....Before the season started ,Jim Chandler stated that Alleyne wasn't in his plans {ie..wouldn't make the team}....so not exactly our best player.

I'd give myself 8/10.

Best keeper outside the Ryman...No one touches Andy Hall, pall.....Also has, your 'fabled' Ryman premier experience, and as you can see from our goals against record last season,The best in the league.NO QUESTION.

A player who came 'second' in the scoring table,a player from Maldon, and a young player from Burnham.....I don't know how i will sleap at night.

Our 2 recent signings are, last years Leyton captain(Fenn),and Ryman premier player(Gerharty)....So what!

lets be fair; Basil's keeper looked handy

I have been struggling trying to think (always had that problem) if there are any big differences in the ETFC team from last season.... answer no big changes; some changes but only to strengthen the squad.

It takes time to build a team that will win, consistently.

Come on u TOWN

With both feet straggling the fence just some obsevations.

Nobody has finished above Enfield Town, except one team who are now in the Ryman, so not sure of the relevance of that.

Basildon were fairly average last year but now appear to be a better side, so we will all have to be careful.

We have all seen ex league players, ex conference players up and coming players, in all different shapes and sizes and the bottom line is reputation counts for nothing, they are either good bad or indifferent.

You may have Leytons captain, but is he not the one player you all seem concerned about.

This season you are allowed 5 subs, so most teams would pick a keeper to be on the bench

Most importantly, we have only had one game !!!!!!!! A long way to go fellas

Canary.,As a 'virgin' poster, may i welcome you and your fellow 'jonny come lately's' onto the non-league forums.

So you admit Fenn did captain Leyton, and Gerhaty WAS a 'premier' player.I myself watched him on many occassions, playing for the 'old' Enfield fc...If you want to pick bones out of my posts, please try to find some inaccuracies first.
