No but I did see Johnny Ray at the Palladium once with Billy Daniels and The Inkspots around 1976 and then in the 1980's at Lewisham with the Beverly Sisters.

Oh JJ! You really cut me to the quick there.

 

Just out of interest, on the basis of all this 6 degree stuff, the Inkspots do have a connection with Margate FC you know.

 

The Inkspots appeared at Margate Winter Gardens (according to their website) on 28th August 1949.

On that occasion they were accompanied by the Winter Gardens Orchestra conducted by Leslie Wheeler. Fast forward to 1973/4, go to Jeff Trice's Margate FC history site and look at the Reserves photo and you will find an official there, the self same Leslie Wheeler (he also appears on at least one other photo and will be remembered by those who used to attend the Winter Gardens regularly, especially the Sunday Socials)

 

The manager of the Reserves in that photo is Ray John believe it or not but I won't make any comment such as is it the singer with his name round the wrong way.

Thanks Jeremy. Maurice's name brings back happy memories of the music scene in Margate in the 50's & 60's. I also spent many happy minutes looking in the window of his shop by the Harbour - had to be minutes as Mum would drag me away!
