I Failed!!

Recommended Posts

I received my AS Level results through the post this morning and I f**ked up bad!!!

I received:-

Film Studies - 'B' which was great however, I got an 'E' for General Studies which was a bit iffy but then I turned over the page...

Chemistry - 'U'

Human Biology - 'U'

ICT - 'U'

Well I just hit the roof after reading this!!

I have three options open to me now:-

(A) Drop out of College entirely - However this would seem a waste of a whole year then especially after doing so well in Film Studies.

(B) Re-sit Yr. 1 again - Lose a year over those who passed this year re-do the year I've just completed maybe with some other subjects to replace the ones I failed - seems reasonable, I will still remain with many of my mates as some of them have decided to re-sit too.

© Do something other than A-Levels, after getting such a good grade in Film Studies and [***!!***] in the others I thought about taking an AVCE in Moving Image or something closely related to film. An AVCE is the equivilant to about 3 A-Levels so I would probably be statisfied with it, however it means I would have to leave all my College mates and make new ones - something I am not very good at!!

Oh decisions, decisions...

And the Goverment think A-Levels are getting easier?! What [****!!****]!!! <img src="/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

Oh dear, sorry to hear about that mate! Not an easy decision to make but I'd definitely wouldn't drop out of college especially if you want to go to Uni.

Unfortunately YA, you're right! You can't really get anywhere without a Degree in something or other now!

I've seen a great course at Buckinghamshire University to do with Film Studies/Video Production/Creative Writing - something I am very keen and interested in. However I'm going to have to wait an extra year to get anywhere near it! <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I think my old uni, University of East London did something like that. I did a couple of Film Studies courses as part of my Media Studies but because I combined it with History it wasn't very hands on. It was all theory and I didn't get a chance to do much practical stuff like editing etc.

Yes your old Uni does do something like that.

I know they do Film Studies and a couple of Combined Courses. Film Studies is the theory side of it, Video Production is the practical side I believe.

serves you right for messing around on forums all day trying to chat birds up instead of swotting... <img src="/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

in my day we never got a second chance...we got sent to work at 14 and kicked up the a***.... <img src="/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

here's the answer...get a part time job and stop scrounging off your parents.....get stuck into the revision....sit the exams again and stop whining and messing around on here... <img src="/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

if all else fails get a job as a double glazing salesman.... <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Without making you feel worse Matt I got B for Business Studies, C for History, C for General Studies and E for Accounting. Even so Matt, should your U's be close to the boundary you can always turn it around in the second year with some hard work. That'll teach you for not going to SEEVIC!!!

<img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> SEEVIC! Huh! NO THANKS!!!!

I know too many people there that I went to Furtherwick with, wouldn't want to know most of them anymore! [****!!****]!!!

I'm rather happy at SEEC thank you, in fact I hear one of our Maths Tutors has been fired as only one person who took AS Maths passed!! <img src="/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif" alt="" />

No doubt, she'll end up at SEEVIC, just like all the SEEC Rejects!!! (Sorry Crow!) <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Never give up matey-o.

I didn't get what I needed to make it into my 1st choice uni but still managed to get blind drunk for 3 years whilst 'studying'.

If you want to do it, you can. That's what I say.

So keep a smile on your face chicka-a-dee, it will all be good in the end.

Well...I got a phone call from my Personal Tutor this morning, (just as I was washing my hair too! Bloody typical!!)

She's called me in for an interview tomorrow afternoon at 2pm to discuss about the options available to me!!

So far I've got two things going through my head

(i) Re-sitting AS again re-taking Film Studies & Chemistry, but swapping ICT & Human Biology for Media Studies and English Language.

or..

(iii) The AVCE Moving Image course... but I will have to research into that further before deciding.

Make me mind up time!!!!!

Right an update as I know you all care so much! <img src="/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif" alt="" />

Went for my interview with my Personal Tutor on Wednesday afternoon and we discussed went wrong. I told her the truth - That I had realised last Christmas that I shouldn't have taken the Science subjects as the Film had over taken and was rapidly becoming my best subject, (which the final results proved clearly!)

Afterwards we discussed what I was going to do next... I said I was thinking about re-sitting AS and I wanted to do the subjects I mentioned above (Film Studies, Media Studies, English Language & Chemistry). I was told that I couldn't re-do Chemistry as I had already failed it and they couldn't see me improving on my last result <img src="/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> I was also advised by my Head of Year that I wouldn't be allowed to do English Language as I only got a 'C' for it at GCSE Level! <img src="/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> However!!!! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Tessa (Personal Tutor), Sharon (Head of Year), Simon (Film Studies Tutor) & Drew (New Head of Pathway) were all impressed with my Film Studies 'B' grade! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> One of the best in the College across ALL courses...

So here's the new deal... I was introduced formally to Drew who is the Head of the BND, (BTEC National Diploma for you old schools!) Moving Image course. He told me about his course and what it involved: Film Studies, Video Production, Script Writing just to name a few. My eyes lit up at he prospect of this course but I had a few demands of my own! NO Radio work & NO Print work as you would if you would take A-Level or AVCE Media Studies... Drew's words were - "We go no-where near them areas, we concentrate solely on Moving Image". I thought - "YES!!!!"

So tomorrow I have to do a formal interview with Drew as if I was enrolling for the first time again and I would be given the basics... The two downsides to this are: 1. I would have to go through the induction again of getting to know my peers for two days - absolute [****!!****] that I can't be arsed with again, & 2. Due to this I may have to start the new year earlier than I expected - Sept 2nd I think.

Of course another downside is that I will hardly be seeing any of my mates that I done A-Levels with, but I have their phone numbers and email addresses and everything so I will manage to keep contact and this is me I'm thinking about so they have to take a step back! Half of them are re-sitting AS or transferring to other courses too, so we will all be meeting up somewhere in the middle. Only 4 I know are actually going onto A2!

So all is looking very prosperous indeed and the next two years should be fun!!!!.....

Oh and that's not all!! No sir, as my Film Studies 'B' grade was so good, the College have kindly let me continue on with it into A2 - Bizare that I will hopefully finish in two years with a 'Distinction' in the BND, (equivilant to 2/3 A-Levels) AND an ordinary A-Level in Film Studies completed the year before!!

Hmmm, I could be the next Sir Ridley Scott!!! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
