Margate release one

About time this happened really and i think quite a few players should take note of this. I've heard time after time over the last few years that players don't turn up to training and i notice that in the past it's been the young local lot. Sammy Cliff is a good player, but tbh i don't think he is too much better then Ryman 1 standard, he just stuck out like a sore thumb in a very weak Margate squad. Right decision made by O'Connell imo

I similarly thought he was over-rated (on the two /three occasions that i saw a bit of him) by many-just because he was'local'

Decent player-but frankly-the' got potential 'phrase is over-utilised.

Potential at 16 maybe-but after that-you've either got it or you have'nt.

similarly agree-'the right decision'-probably for both parties-he will get more games at ramsgate (if signed by them) and to be fair-they do seem to have all of our ex- better younger players-who together will i reckon do really well-and i think ramsgate will definately be in the top 5 by the end of the season-and good luck to them.

I Went across to watch Ramsgate tonight, Michael. Sam was there and came on in the 2nd half and you're correct in what your saying, a lot of our ex-young guns were playing. They looked very good too, I might say. Ollie Gray, Luke Wheatley, Curtis Winnett, Joe Taylor, Aaron Beech, Paul Axon and Sam Cliffe all featured. Aaron and Ollie scoring both goals in a 2-1 win against Billaricay Town.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable night's entertainment and cetainly beat being stuck at home having to endure the "soaps" with the Mrs.. Must say everyone over there were very friendly and Mark Whetherly, Jim Ward, Richard Lawson, and Martin Able all took time out to say "Hello" to me. Plus I can now watch tomorrow's game over there, for free, sampling the ales in their festival.

Makes a good Generation sport team hey John. Is Jason playing for them this year.

Yep, a great showing from the Gen lads Graeme. As for Jason he says he wants to get fully fit before he possibly returns to club football, most likely Ramsgate; if they let him. He's out running and doing training sessions with Gen Sports. He went to a couple of training sessions, at Ramsgate; at the start of pre-season but told them he wants to get fully fit before he trials. He's taking a few weeks to hopefully attain the level required, at his own pace.

Greame not 100% sure at present but there might be a friendly Monday evening between Gens and a Ramsgate team.

Graeme, to the best of my knowledge, the game is still on this evening. Come and watch if you've got a spare evening, mate. should be a good game IMO. Ursuline training ground 6.30pm, between King Ethelbert's school and Birchington.

It was a terrific game Graeme. Gens young guns played Ramsgate off the park 1st half and should easily have been 3 or 4 up at half time. Second half was pretty even (well the pendulum probably swung Ramsgate's way, in truth). Ramsgate had a spectacular strike, when one of the Gen Lads dwelt on the ball, a bit to long. Like I say though "it's not the initial mistake that looses a game it's the reaction time to that mistake". Only problem was there could have been no longer than a second to react, a rocket straight in the top right hand corner. Rather blasts my sayings out the window. LOL Oh well!

Ramsgate fielded a few of their 1st team squad that had played short spells over the weekend against Billericay and Ebbsfleet. Certainly a lot of good players on show across both teams.

Gens average age must have been a good year, probably two, if not three years younger than that of the Ramsgate lads. Plus Gens were without Aaron Beech, Paul Axon (both at Ramsgate's 1sts) and Shane Brown, Tom Hickman (both on holiday).

Certainly a good run out for the young Gen lads to start their pre-season and I believe that Phil is lining up some other games with a few Local Clubs, that want to test their squads out, against the Gen Lads. As and when I know I'll try to let you know Graeme. All looking good for the start of the Thanet Sunday League at this point in time though.
