Margate Vs Sittingbourne Fc

Ok my take on tonights game was well .. we looked comfortable on the ball (all round) and that Sittingbourne were never really going to trouble us and sure enough they didnt. Was that because we were of a higher league, no I think the combination of "very" strong defence and probably the fact that our players new and old looked so much more confident and composed led to the result and that really could have been a higher scoreline. Our No 7 was in my mind our "must" sign player as he was always in the fray and took a lot of the play from midfield to an attacking form. As usual Jay Saunders looks solid and Groombridge is so calm and controlled it would be difficult not to see him in the side for the forthcoming season. Tommy Osbourne also gave a good performance and Curtis playing in a left wing position caused problems all night ( couldve scored as well). Allan Tait was kept away from his attacking duties IMO as Siguere seemed to be the main target for any crosses/passes in attempt for goal. Aaron Lacey was mister reliable as usual and his mazey runs up the right hand side caused panic amongst the opposition all night. James Pinnock could have and should have scored but (his words not mine) "the pitch was well slippy" (after heavy downpour). Im not a sports correspondant but let me just say today I felt more confident pre-season than I have done for quite a few seasons - time will tell........... Quietely confident

Thanks for posting DR.

Was the no 7 Mansford(as on twitter) who is in fact Darren Marsden from herne bay ?

Good result again i would have thought-and another clean sheet-getting concerned about these clean sheets-its not what we are accustomed to.

Whatever next-if we are not careful-we may even win a cup game this season

I hope we get a real beating soon though in the psf's-possibly on saturday which will be tougher-and certainly i hope against dover-in a psf-you learn so much more from a beating than you do a win.

Save the wins for the league and the losses for the psf's.

Downpour did not help matters and wondered at one point if the ref was going to take the players off.

Gate of over 200 very good bearing in mind conditions and a friendly. The small band of Sittingbourne fans that turned up tried to encourage their team by constant singing...one in particular who I was informed is on the Chelsea ground blacklist!!!!!!

The players looked like they were playing as a unit and I trust all the crap and uncertainty we went through last year is a thing of the past

A very decent crowd & a good runout for the players.Comfortable indeed but Sittingbourne will do well in their respective league this coming seasion i.m.o. They were a far better opposition than that of Faversham.Marsden indeed did steal the show last night.Looked well up to this league on last nights showing. Again Ethienne showed up well after having come on as did all other players especially Osbourne ,Groombridge,Ball,Lacey & Robinson, who were exceptional.

All replacements didnt stop the flow & indeed things actually picked up when they arrived. The tall chap that came on late second half, the one that cocked up a few times seemed to be trying to a tad too hard to impress but i.m.o. (but not in some others)

;)

He will improve his game if he relaxes a bit more.He at least was in position to get the chances & I can see something in him.Tall muscular & speedy with some nice touches. He Just let himself down in the finishing department thats all,(sometimes I grant, comical to the eye) but that will improve I'm sure if he gets given another chance & relaxes just a little bit more.. (His name..?)

Despite Sittingbourne being better class than Faversham we will meet far more sterner opposition & then we will see how we stand but as of now we are doing fine, things are looking very encouraging & as Frankie mentions optimism for the season, albeit only on two friendly results, has returned to the terraces once again.

The whole squad of players looked very settled & are working as a unit already which is a very healthy sign at this very early stage in the season. Things will improve too from here on.

50-1 to win the league? l.o.l.... Okay, maybe winning the league might be beyond us (but you never know as this bunch of lads are looking good) but realistically I would put us in at around 14/1.

Found mentions of a Femi Ismail on the net - ex Dulwich, Met Police and most recently Basingstoke reserves. If it's him then it seems he's played mostly as a centre back. Only had a quick dig around though.

Thanks for that Jeff. Might account for him missing those chances then. Are you still laughing by the way.:97:

He will come good though, mark my words (given the chance)

Granted, only a friendly, but some encouraging signs. Very patient at times, and determined to keep the ball, which is always a good sign. Yet not afraid to pump the long ball when required. Thought we got the balance right. As others have said, no. 7 looks a very promising player: would definitely like to see more of him. Robinson also had a superb game, as did Lacy (particularly first half). Also impressed with Tait, personally. Thought he was always looking to bring the ball down, play it out wide and get in the box - good old-fashioned centre-forward play.

Quite disappointed with Sittingbourne - one of their weaker teams I have seen in recent years. What happened to that nifty little striker they had last season? Thought he could have proved a stern test for our defence, but don't think he played last night? Good turnout as well, all things considered. Bodes well for a decent crowd first day of the season. Saturday should be a real good test IMO. GWR finished top 10 or so last year I think, and can't see them being pushovers on their own patch. Imagine they really won't want to be beat by their former gaffer either, so could be a good indication of how far we've come.

Overall, some very encouraging signs. If we can get 1 or 2 more players, we may well have a decent season. Up the Gate!
