Mo Sharif on trial at QPR?

At this level I don't think a club can hold out for much more than that - especially not for a 17/18 year old - and it might not be advisable to, as it would hinder a player's development, and it's good to see players progress to better things. There is a compensation structure of sorts in place for league clubs who have developed youth talent and had them snatched away by Premiership clubs, and I just wonder if something could be done to reward non-league clubs too. Wealdstone for one must have done quite well out of selling Jermaine Beckford to Leeds, and only recently one of their other young players moved on to Wycombe (I think).

Wealdstone also had a sell on clause for Beckford which would have been activated for his move to Everton, except he ran his contract down so they didn't receive a penny.

Generally the way most smaller clubs make a bit of extra money when selling to larger clubs. Sell a player for <£10k and hope that in the future he might make you £100,000+ if he reaches his potential and gets a move to a bigger club.

Had Mo been on a contract last year I assume that would have meant paying him week on week irrespective of whether he played. I'm not sure doing that just to secure a modest transfer fee would have been good business for Slough.

Exactly, look at Graham Edwards who was on a contract and spent a large part injured.

Fact is he wasn't old enough to be on a contract as he was in full time education so no point moaning about it. Losing good young players is part of non league football, happens to a lot of clubs and should act as an incentive to strive on and push on up the leagues so that our best players will want to stay.

In the long run if the club can produce players as good as him consistently it will not only help the club on the pitch but off it through a growing reputation of producing decent young talent and benefits can come from that.
