Recommended Posts

Woodsy...dont mean to rain on your parade but you are not the first ESL management team who Coachy has annoyed this pre-season!!!

We had to submit dates by the 22nd, this was unable to happen as the fixtures were not released, but we were able to tell the league on Sunday the home and away games for August. All the other clubs would have had to do the same. I pm'd the league chairman to ask for dates when we would be at home midweek , i didnt need the opposition, just to know when we would be at home and got no response. Not very helpful. We have another team who play Saturdays, there are other teams we all have.

A few points here.

Firstly, other Leagues are more than capable of being flexible given the unusual circumstances regarding the delays that the ESL have suffered in view of, in particular, the Grays Athletic situation. This includes the Capital League so the bleating that has been occurring on the Witham Town forum about this particular matter is unnecessary and not helpful.

Secondly, the League Chairman is not the person to be contacting about match dates as it hasn't anything to do with him.

Thirdly, as many will tell you, the League Chairman is generally extremely approachable and as helpful as possible in all League matters. I suspect the reason your PM did not receive a response was not because you addressed the enquiry to the wrong person, but mainly due to the fact that his wife, the League Treasurer, has been extremely unwell recently and has required several periods of hospitalisation. Thankfully, she is now on the road to recovery and they are taking a few days in Scotland as recuperation time at present. Therefore, the critical tone of your comments towards the League Chairman are based on selfish requirement of facts without considering other factors that may be preventing you from getting the information you desire. I trust that such considerations will be borne in mind in future, particularly when you and your fellow posters are making blinkered criticisms of this League on your own club forum without full facts to hand.

Not been there mate, had a nice long summer off...been toying with the idea of what to do i.e Travelling, watching Southend & West Ham more etc.

Played this evening over at VCD AThletic (Definatley a good enough ground to not be expelled from Ryman). Enjoyed it tonight, few lads were back...love playing under the lights!

Nice Summer mate?

No worry about Woodsy...he has already enough on his hands dealing with a League e-mail todaygrin.gif JJ what can I say mate? Before accusing us of poaching players you should look at what your internal problems are.We signed 35 players by the beginning of July, one of few clubs to hand in their registrations forms so early and certainly weren't looking for any more. They wanted to leave and as a manager if I have players that are unhappy I won't really hold them up.And also we don't really should accept any preaching from a club that took a manager and many players away from Hullbridge a few years ago and you was part of it...Life goes on mate and as we say in Rome "when a Pope dies we pick another one!Cheeriooogrin.gif

Yes thanks mate. Though the World Cup, or should I say England, spoiled it a bit. Just looking forward to the new season now.

I think that would be very sensible. As I said before, I think everyone understands that Len has had a near impossible task this year, but for two clubs to meet each other twice in their first two league fixtures doesn't reflect well on the league and isn't helpful to the two clubs concerned.

Let's hope for a season as exciting and nailbiting as the last one.

The Grays and Witham's saga didn't help at all this year and obviously with many clubs groundsharing the ESL was left to deal with fixtures release with no much time left. It's really harsh and ungrateful to slam someone that does this work like a labour of love.Len is a great fella one of those unsung heroes of Non League football.Clubs like the one WTFC belongs should show a bit more respect for him.

Do you have problems reading, where have i criticised Len a nice bloke who works hard, i was purely pointing out that we all at our clubs have other teams which we would have advised our leagues of the fixtures and to change them now could lead to a ground being unavailable. Pleased to see the boss put you right too.

I am man enough to apologize to the Chairman for his wife being ill and unable to respond, but i thought i saw a post on this thread from him about a game being played before the ESL fixtures. Regarding posters including myself posting on the Witham forum we were told to by compaq 7500 who thought it was ok to slag Witham off along with other posters on here, but when i or others pointed out facts about Stansted / Hullbridge or the league we are wrong. Will you be criticising others on here for there opinion about the league or just Witham bashing again. Two posters on this thread criticised the league for doing Takeley v Eton Manor, i look forward to reading you put them right too and give them a lecture. WITHAM BASHING.

I'm sure the League Chairman will appreciate the apology, thanks. I am aware that you wouldn't have known his personal situation but I would like to think that I have highlighted that situations people comment on in this forum are not always as black and white as they seem.

With regards to Takely and Eton Manor, I have already passed comment on that situation.

As far as "Witham bashing" or "anybody else bashing" goes, that's not going to be happening with me. You may feel that this is you being picked on but, if you take the time to look at it objectively, that is probably down to a culmination of issues/events that your club has suffered over the last few weeks and months rather than one individual statement from me. I just felt this was an opportune moment to highlight what I consider to be unnecessary digs at the ESL eminating from a member club's forum. It is a comment designed to be read by all, not just users of the Witham forum. From my viewpoint, if clubs need to be warned about certain things, then that warning will be issued. Sometimes it will be public, more often it will be private. What I can guarantee, however, is that I will treat every club in exactly the same way as all the others in this League. I will be at every ESL ground, and in every boardroom, several times over the course of the season and if anybody has any problems with me or the League, or has any views they wish to air, I am more than happy to listen.

Thank you for your time.

I think I did state in my comment on Eton Manor v Takeley that I appreciated Len had been operating in very strange circumstances this year, but that I still thought two teams playing each other twice in the first two games was a bit nonsensical. Clearly on that Len has had another look, reconsidered and agreed, and therefore has tweaked the fixtures so to avoid that, which is the right outcome in my view. I would never dream of "bashing" the Hon. Fixtures Secretary for this or any other non-league competition. It's a thankless task.

Ok I've not wanted to get involved in all this as I probably have enough enemies already in non-league football, but let's be honest Witham Town and there so called followers have not really covered themselves in glory especially towards the end of last season. I remember the wranglings between Stanstead & themselves. If they feel hard done by for not getting promoted after finishing second then I'm sorry but with a budget that was a lot bigger than all of the ESL they only have themselves to blame. They knew the deal at the start - win it and you get promoted. If they had won it, then that would have happened regardless of what has gone on with Grays, Harlow etc (which I don't agree with by the way).

I suggest the best way for them to deal with all of this and if they aren't happy with how things have been done in the ESL this season then they need to win the league and get out of it. I for one will congratulate them if they do that, because as like Stansted they would have been the best team. And that's from someone associated with Burnham who were 8 points clear at Christmas!!!

All of this bickering doesn't really show the ESL in a great light and there are some very good people who run and are involved in clubs at this level, and people who have been at this level for a period of time who have gone onto better things that are maybe looking at the ESL now as a bit of a laughing stock, which having been involved in it for a little while now I know the majority of the time it isn't.

All of the people associated with clubs at this level do it for the love of their club and the game and without these people these clubs would be no more. To continually take cheap shots at other clubs is not really in the spirit of the game and should not be tolerated.

We all want to win and be succesful but we have to cut our cloths accordingly, because another side has more than another it doesn't make them any better or worse.

I may have diverted from the origianl post title but once I got going I felt I needed to get this out.

I sincerely wish every ESL side the best of luck this season and I can say you will receive a very warm welcome, as always, at Leslie Field whenever you arrive and whoever you maybe.

Thanks

Ok as i appeaar to have been officially silenced with threats of warnings.

I will watch intensly to make sure that when Coachie or any other individual decides to slate Danny Greaves, Tony Last, Myself or anyone at our club that your new policing will be equal to them too and not just against Witham Town.

I have no further comment as my club should not be punished by my opinions, but i will be watching for even handedness.

Okay, let's lighten things up, it's become far too serious here. We should all call a truce, chill out a bit, enjoy the summer, and not lose sight of the fact that we get involved in football at this level for the sheer love of it. Let's instead change tack completely and throw a light hearted question into proceedings.

What club's supporters does everyone think now has the biggest 'Charlie Big Potatoes' attitude?

Now now, Coachie, let's all play nicely. There's no definitive answer, just a lighted hearted question where everyone's fun views are appreciated and valued. This is officially The House Of Love forum now.

Anyway, yes, clues ... fixtures, second place, conspiracy theory.

Much as I appreciate your concerns, I hardly feel that a fine should be sent the way of a club currently plying their trade in the Highland League. It is somewhat doubtful they will be reading these messages. I would also have aspersions over whether or not the Essex Senior Football League has much jurisdiction over Inverness-shire based clubs either.

Peace and love.
