Binfield v Slough Town

I can hear the comments now.....we're conceding goals too easily. Same comments after the Windsor and Leverstock games. We were parking as the first whistle blew and by the time we'd reached the pitch we were 2-0 down!!

Several players missing who would normally be in contention for starting places - Bowden-Hasse, Sweeney, Herron, Coyne, Sonner, Byrne, Harper. That said we should have had sufficient quality to have played much better than we did. Tony Mendy looked lively when he came on and O'Connor looked more effective ( or should I say less ineffective) when pushed back into the middle. Yes it's only pre-season but I worry where our goals are coming from this year.

I agree Ian, as i've said before I think were missing one stirker of the Elliott Buchanan/Matthew Platt mould who will get you 20-25 goals. I can see a case in some games next season where we absolutely dominate a game, but we don't have that poacher in front of goal to get the goals needed and I think vital points may slip because of this.

If you look at our options up front both O'Connor and Sonner work very hard, but neither particually play on the last shoulder of the defender but both do a lot of good work in wide areas and work their socks off. Simon Martin I think has defintely improved on last season, but is more of a targetman and Sippetts seems to be struggling to recapture his form before his injury.

Mendy looked powerful and strong when he came on and defintely offered us something different. He played on the last shoulder of the defenders today and looked a threat in behind, but am not at all sure he's quite ready to be chucked straight into the side yet and he needs to be introduced from the bench to start off with as that would be unfiar on him.

If we were to get a goalscorer and somehow get Adam Martin back in, i'd personally be delighted going into the season with this squad from what I know about the players from last season and what we have seen from the new boys so far. But for me that striker is a must.

Certainly for the first 20 minutes only one team wanted to win the game and consequently we were 2 down through two defensive errors.

We were short of some vital players today which was not a problem because most of them have played in 4 out of the 5 friendlies we've had and it gave the chance for players like Terry O'Connor to have a proper run out.

My one gripe is that Simon Sweeney has only played in the one friendly which frankly I don't think is good enough. Still, we have 4 friendlies left and I would hope and expect that he would play in those to get his match fitness up to scratch.

My MoM was Chris Seeby who had a good game, gave it 100% and didn't treat it like a kick about.
