ASHFORD TOWN RESIGN FROM RYMAN LEAGUE

That would seem to depend on which Ashford director you believe! A shame for both clubs, but particularly our fomer landlords.

I can't see the advantage of kicking Maidstone out of the ground if Ashford have money problems. Surely their contribution would be a good chunk of the rent/lease. It cost us enough to go there.

Maidstone United Football Club had entered into an agreement for the installation and broadcasting of commercial satellite television which appears to have happened illegally as no satellite viewing licence has been obtained by MUFC from Sky. The commercial satellite television company concerned contacted Don Crosbie, Ashford Towns Chairman and steps have been taken to prevent further infringements of the same kind from occurring to safeguard the club and its supporters position. We understand that the penalty for infringement is a fine of up to £5,000 per occurrence

The drop into the Kent League may well not but the ban on them playing football is still in force so unless they clear their football debt, they will be unable to play.

In the interests of balance I would just like to point out that Maidstone have strongly denied this allegation. It seems to me (my own view, not that of Maidstone United) that Don Crosby wants us out of Homelands and is prepared to go to extraordinary lengths to achieve it. The other director, Tony Betteridge, who also owns the freehold and who the groundshare contract is with has assured us there is no problem and we will be playing at Homelands this year, so who knows whats going to happen. Worrying times for both sets of fans.

Would Cetral park serve a purpose for Maidstone if they cannot get into Bourne Park and would it be an option?

I don't think Central Park is an option. It has too many other events, and even if it were free I think the pitch would require vast amounts of work to make it playable.

I know there is no love lost between you and Tonbridge, but I would have thought Longmead would have been the most obvious alternative (in terms of geography anyway). And given the amount they are spending on players, the rent might come in handy when they run out of money in the second half of the season.

Interesting article by John Beech on ASHFORD FC

Tonbridge would be quite an attractive option but I think most supporters would love to be playing at Chatham, and ironically, since they seem to have been given Ashford's fixtures there are no home clashes between us and them. The only stumbling block would seem to be the Ryman League who refused us permission to move there at the end of last season. However, circumstances change and they might be persuaded to change their minds, at least for this season, should push come to shove. I think we will still be playing at Ashford, but if not then playing at Chatham would avoid any more mucking about with the fixtures which surely must appeal to the league.
