Zumba-A Good Instructor for Fitness

Recommended Posts

I read many of thereviews for this DVD prior to purchasing it, and against my betterjudgment assumed most people were just exaggerating or not used to exercising.I was already familiar with Jennifer Galardi having done one of her ab workoutson exercise tv on demand. In spite of wondering where the bloody hip hop was inthe clip I watched on the internet prior to purchasing, I pulled the trigger onmaking the purchase because the structor is really good.

My first impression upon doing this DVD was that it was easy, slow and not in any way shape or form Hip Hop. Seriously... using the words"hip hop" in the title is like false advertising! Those words have nobusiness being associated with this ZumbaFitness DVD or its content at all.But I let it slide because after completing the DVD (and the step guide) I was sweating,my abs felt tighter and I did feel as though I had worked out.

The structor is really good. The step guide is ahuge asset to the DVD. I did the step guide before taking the plunge (per otherreviews' advice) and it helped tremendously. She is easy to follow, the stepsare relatively easy to do and to manipulate, and on the off chance you get lostor miss a step it is easy to catch up.

That is kind of where I run out of positive thingsto say about this DVD. I've said it before but I will reiterate... if you arelooking for a true hip hop DVD, this is NOT the one for you! The music isso lame and is in no way hip hop at all. It sounds like some dude in hisbasement decided to try playing with a lame drum machine while using Tetris ashis inspiration. It doesn't go with the name of the DVD, nor does it go with structor's style orthe moves she's teaching.

There are like two random old-school "hiphop" moves she throws into her routines, but that is it. I'm sorry, butthe box step and kick-ball-change do not constitute hip hop dancing. And justbecause she says things like "bring tha noise" and "I wanna seeyou partaaaayyy" doesn't mean the routines are hip hop related.

I read a review prior to purchasing this ZumbaFitness DVD that said something likejust because she's wearing cargo pants doesn't mean it is a hip hop ZumbaFitness DVD. I now know fully whatthat person meant. I tried to like this DVD and still do throw it intorotation. But I find that every time I do it now, all I can do is focus on theabsurdity of the difference between what is in the title of the DVD versus what content isactually on it.

We have in recent yearsseen genre http://www.dvdsuperd...dvd-boxset.html]show that were huge hits with critics andmanaged to generate a passionate cult following. Probably no show was criticallypraised but at its peak it managed only a small audience. http://www.dvdsuperd...dvd-boxset.html]Losthas generated critical praise almost as strong as BUFFY, a core offans nearly as passionate, but unlike BUFFY managed absolutely stunningratings. It is one of the few instances in recent television history where whatis arguably the best http://www.dvdsuperd...dvd-boxset.html]show on TV also managed among the strongestratings. In fact, http://www.dvdsuperd...dvd-boxset.html]Lostwould be considered a cult show based on the number of websitesthat it has inspired and the passion of the fans, except that the ratingsinstead make it a mainstream hit.

Who would have thought that a series dealing withplane crash survivors on a most unusual island would have been this successful? Before it debuted I remember people joking that it sounded like GILLIGAN'SISLAND without the humor. But it ended up matching or surpassing the mostoptimistic expecations, in quality as well as in ratings. The mention ofratings is not gratuitious. So many superb http://www.dvdsuperd...dvd-boxset.html]show have been cancelled in recent years(FIREFLY, WONDERFALLS, DEAD LIKE ME, ANGEL) that there was even a "SaveLOST" website started . . . before the show even debuted! Luckily, theratings have made cancellation seem not only remote but impossible.

It is almost impossible to acknowledge everythingthat http://www.dvdsuperd...dvd-boxset.html]Lostdoes well in the space allotted here. Above all else, it is asuperbly written show, not merely on an episode by episode basis, but in theway all of the episodes mesh with one another. The continuity is the best thatI have seen in a long time. For instance, the first time we see one characterin the http://www.dvdsuperd...dvd-boxset.html]Lost, she is rubbing her wrist. Later, we learn that she had been aprisoner of a U. S. Marshall and had obviously gotten rid of her handcuffs justbefore we first met her. Almost any detail like that will be dealt with at alater date. But the scripts are just as strong on character development, humor, excitement, and adventure. I do have a tiny bit of fear about http://www.dvdsuperd...dvd-boxset.html]seasonTwo: former BUFFY and ANGEL writer DavidFury, who wrote many of the finest scripts of the year, including"Walkabout," which could very well win Fury an Emmy for best writtenepisode of the year, has left LOST to work this summer on the new FOX seriesTHE INSIDE, before joining 24 as a writer and executive producer.

http://www.dvdsuperd...dvd-boxset.html]Lostclearly has the potential to be one of the great series in thehistory of television. The producers are highly ambitious, but so far theirexecution has matched their aspirations. I have only one concern with the show, and that is the executive producer and creator J. J. Abrams. Although he hastwo prior hit shows, FELICITY and ALIAS, he has had some problems with takinghis http://www.dvdsuperd...dvd-boxset.html]Lostshows to higher levels. What made BUFFY so extraordinary was thateach year they managed to do something new and amazing, even if some fans weredisappointed by some directions it headed. But ALIAS has started to disappointsome fans by the fact that it hasn't progressed much beyond what it was in thefirst season. Instead of doing strikingly new things, Abrams just tends torecycle the same general storyline. And there has not been much of a payoff forall the focus on Ramaldi (for nonfans of ALIAS, a Renaissance genius whoseartifacts provide much of the narrative force of the show). Abrams clearly isbrilliant at conceiving and initiating great shows, but he has not yetdemonstrated that he is a great finisher in the way that Joss Whedon has. Ibelieve that Abrams either will come to terms with this or the other creators andexecutive producers will help http://www.dvdsuperd...dvd-boxset.html]Lost get to a place that we will all find satisfying.
