The Damned United

A great man but on all fairness apparantly the family had the hump with the film maker because that's exactly what he was like

a genius with flawes like the rest of us

That was the first film I have been able to sit through for ages and I thought for anyone that remembers those times it was absolutely brilliant, although anyone that was too young to remember would probably have been a bit puzzled.

Any manager that can sign a team of hasbeens and no-hopers and turn them into champions by playing the beautiful game has to be a genius, and those responsible for stopping him being England manager should even today hang their heads in shame.

I also enjoyed the way the film portrayed Leeds as a team of cheating thugs, and few people that ever saw them play would disagree with that, they was easily the dirtiest team I have ever seen.

I can remember a game at Loftus Road when Brin Cloughs Forest were plying the 'Superhoops' and a certain Kenny Burns committed an awful foul on STan Bowles in the first half for which he got booked.

Brian Clough subsituted him at half time as he thought he should have been sent off. He always wanted the game to be played as it should have done.

Heavens knows what he would have thought of Holland!

I remember seeing an interview with an ex Forest player, but cannot remember who it was. He said that he was being booked for dissent after a warning from the ref over a tackle. He said that he pleaded with the ref to book him for foul play instead, knowing what Clough would be like if he was booked for dissent. What a shame managers are not like that today, as it has now become the norm to abuse the ref.

Although I am a Leeds fan I have always believed that Cloughie was very harshy treated by the senior players and the Board at the time (though he didnt help himself either with some of his comments). He had the last laugh on them though going on to win the European Cup in 79 & 80 with Forest.
