As my moments tend to be pitch side mostly - they have to be...

1) Having to spend a good hour or two on top of the turnstyles after Villa Park with a young lady, and getting rather intoxicated at the same time grin.gif

2) Standing by the limo in the Villa car park - when the BBC Esex producer pointed across and said 'Whose Limo? - No! Not yours!' and walked away amazed at the sureal sort of day he had had grin.gif

3) When the stewards closed the barrier to prevent all the Canvey fans from going up the end where the Stevenage penalties were to be taken - showing my press pass and getting through - only for 2 or 3 Canvey fans behind me saying 'I'm with him' and following me grin.gif

4) Photographing at the Northampton Game - things like the MOTD studio. Possibly (but I hope not) a one off experience.

5) Being asked by a Daily Telegraph photographer who the Canvey player was in his photo, and being totally amazed by the game that I had forgotten most of their names - weird experience.

6) JJB Stadium - witnessing the press conference held by Jeff King after the game, and having a lot of respect for him - having seen him improve greatly in the quality of responses to live questioning by various hacks from Fleet Street.

Sorry that was 6 - and if I think about it I could probably double it easily.

They are great moments, but sometimes the "Lesser" achievements (Joke) are as memorable.

Who could ever forget nicking the Div 1 Title at Tilbury and waiting for the Ryman "Officials" to bring the Trophy from Braintree.

1.The atmosphere on the terraces after the long trip to the Deva stadium. Probably the most signing i've ever done.

2.The look on the bar staff's faces when 4 coach loads of us invaded that pub in Wigan, just after it had opened.

3.Alan Hansen having to eat humble pie after he slated us at half time during the Northampton game.

4.Superman dancing round the tackles of the canvey subs at half time(can't remeber if it was Sammy Cooper or the now Y list celebrity Jef Brazier).

5.And who can forget the streaker that could hardly walk that inspired us to fight back against Port Vale.

Possibly not in that order though.

We do have one Gazza and a little feeling we will build on those past glories this season

Top 5 Park Lane moments

1 The comeback against Port Vale (sung for the entire 90 minutes even when we were 2-0 down and absolute bedlam when Vaughan equalised. I was in one of the bus shelters with the vocal lot and everybody went nuts when that went in)

2 Northampton, right behind the goal when Greggors scored, amazing!!

3 Telford (chucked it down with rain and Jonah scored the winner, Ash made a wonder save in the last minutes, brilliant celebrating with the players at the end. Knew after that we'd win the Trophy)

4 Brighton (My first Canvey game, Bretty scored a great equaliser. Remember walking home and hearing the police sirens as it all kicked off with the Brighton fans in Point Road)

5 Daggers 27th Dec 1999 (I was going to put down the celebrations after the Trophy final but thought I'd opt for something different.

Canvey's last game of the 20th century and in front of over 2,000 people we done the runaway leaders! Great goal by Duffers!)

Grays Ath at home last season was good. Stimmo got a bit of a welcome!!

Hmm, I'm only a part-time supporter as I only started watching Canvey the season after Brighton...

So:-

5. - Chester City away. "Bucket & Spade Song" etc. Stimmo's volley, Wardy's near own-goal, the night out afterwards...Great Stuff

4. - Port Vale 4-4 at Park Lane, hearing Steve Houghton on BBC Essex after the game he'd lost his voice, 'Ian' streaking... Peter Smith's goal, Tilly's penalty, Jeff Minton's two goals and their penalty miss!

3. - Return from Villa Park, after the electricity at the game, staggering out of the limo and spending most of the night sliding slowly down the wall of the Clubhouse to the floor and throwing up!

2. - Northampton 1-0 live on MotD, Ray Stubbs and his boys, Hanson & Lawrenson. Barry Davies, Trevor Brooking, Garth Crooks etc. The Cameras, Julian Dicks, Marco 'Donkey' Gabbiadini...Superb!

Joint 1st

JJB Stadium/Turfmoor

JJB Stadium - sitting in the Press Box at the back of the main stand opposite the Yellow Army & being the lone voices cheering when Gregors volley hit home, watching the scoreboard flash 'GOAL'. The celebrations in a Pub afterwards and meeting up with some Wigan fans and going on a Pub Crawl.

Turfmoor - Once again sitting in the Press Box at the back of the main stand and being the lone voices when Boylan's goal went in. Sitting next to David Powell from 'The Times' and being told by the cameraman from ITV to "move me bonce to the left a bit" The Press Conference at the end of the game, hearing Jeff's interview first-hand all the cameras clicking and Laptops buzzing.. Lovely job!

However if I have to list a Top 5 from Park Lane then it would be:

5. Grays last season - What was it Stimmo? 6?

4. Aldershot last season - The noise they made!!!

3. Return from Villa Park

2. Northampton - 1-0

1. Port Vale - 4-4

Ahh memories!

Certainly the Chester, Wigan and Burnley away trips were memorable and had some great moments.

Going up to Chester, the coach driver got lost in Chester City centre and we eventually got to the ground ten minutes before kick off!!

Wigan was quality. Three hours in a pub. We left Park Lane at 6am on a freezing cold morning and got to Wigan at 11.30. Spent three hours in the pub Shoulders was talking about getting slowly drunk and then singing our hearts out as the Canvey boys put on a magnificent display of grit and determination.

I spent the second half of that game talking to a bloke from Preston called Neil Gregory. I'll never forget the moment Greggors scored. Everyone in yellow went barmy! I had people I didn't even know hugging me!!

It was brilliant in the car park afterwards, everyone singing.

Burnley was also interesting. We came off the motorway to find a pub and ended up in this really small pub, ten minutes walk from Blackburn's ground. The publican was a Blackburn fan (Rovers hate Burnley so they were supporting Canvey)

We then had to meet the police on the junction of the motorway so they could escort us to the ground. There was some very p.ssed people and alot of singing by this time. The policeman looked inside our coach, smiled and we had a police escort to the ground, very impressive!!!

Always remember the Burnley fans applauding our supporters as we got on the coaches coming home. Great set of supporters and really nice people!
