Big J R
Why pay for an enquiry ? The man was on a mission and out to murder, He did the honourable thing. END OF !
Eastside Urchin
This is exactly the waste of money this government is supposed to be avoiding, still it will keep the lawyers, barristers et al in their leafy suburbs for a bit longer
Rhodes
Moat clearly wouldn't have blown himself away had the Police not fired taser stun guns at him and no doubt the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) will have something serious to say about their actions following the forthcoming probe. Big J R
I can only assume the two taser lances were fired at him to try and immobilise him, so he didn't shoot himself. Obviously not enough voltage. which is strange, because normally one 'hit' knocks you out for several seconds. Of course, the initial shock might have made him tense, hence causing him to squeeze the sawn-off's trigger involuntarily.

Loose
It's standard practice to have an inquiry that costs hundreds of thousands, even millions these days following the death of some bloke who has unlawfully been in possession of a gun, refused to give it up after killing someone, wounded others, sometimes a police officer, even if the police have attempted to use non life threatening weapons isn't it? I don't know what it is that people get off on demonising the police faced with these impossible situations. I can only assume that it is the attention. Rhodes
Loosely - Going by the amount of floral tributes left outside Moat's Newcastle home I think you have got the man all wrong, you can't blame him in a way for having a chip on his shoulder about the Police as they arrested him twelve times yet he was only charged once for a trumped up misdemeanor offence. Hookey
You should have seen the floral tributes the Kray twins got. Didn't make them saints!!!!
Rhodes
Hookey - I didn't say that Raoul Moat was a Saint but he deserved much better treatment than he got, fortunately the Police are going to pay the price for their actions yesterday. I gather even Moat's mate Paul Gascoigne, who Moat hero worships, turned up at the scene with food and drink in a hope of talking him down but was unceremoniously turned away by the Police, if anyone could have persuaded him to give up Gazza could have done and subsequently saved his life. Eastside Urchin
I think there is more to this than meets the eye, let's not forget he killed a couple of people and seriously injured two more but he didn't ever come across as a real danger to the public (to an extent anyway) The bloke was obviously seriously depressed after a string of incidents went against him but he was no serial killer,it seems as if he was an average bloke who went completely off the rails in recent months,it does sound that he was maybe targetted by the police and the claims by his ex girlfriend that she was seeing a copper actually probably cost her new boyfriend his life as well as another copper

Rhodesly - Obviously there are people who cared for him, no normal person would celebrate anyones needless death but his past character has nothing to do with the fact that the police are faced by impossible situations daily and will never please everyone, and yet when there is trouble or danger they go towards it because we pay them whilst we would run away, sensibly. You do realise that you have spent all this time in sympathy and almost hero worship of the perpetrator of this crime and none or virtually none on the victims. Isn't that always the way. The guy had already killed and was threatening even more atrocities, the fact that he is now dead is hardly earth shattering, and smart money would always be on him putting a gun to his head anyway. I cannot help thinking that all the crocodile tears now being shed have more to do with potential compensation payouts, rather than genuine compassion for a cold blooded killer. Rhodes
the whole episode should be put to bed Buzzardboy - That's certainly what the Police would like however, mark my words, they are going to be hung drawn and quartered over this sorry, sorry sickening affair. Moat's brother, namely Angus Moat, is quoted as saying 'the tv coverage of his beloved brother's death was like watching a public execution', he went on to say that ' I think I'm probably the only person who has ever watched his own brother die on National television in the UK which is obviously a horrific state of affairs'. Moat's brother rightly criticised Officers for twice using a 50,000 volt taser gun and stated that 'the shock of it could have easily produced an involuntary movement which led to his younger brother pulling the trigger of the shotgun which was wedged tight under his chin'. I think that says it all don't you.
Ian_W
Except there were no marks on his skin from the taser - so although discharged does not mean they was fired at him. Say Gazza or someone else was brought in and Moat shot them - what would you be saying then?
Rhodes
Ian W - Don't take this the wrong way as I'm his biggest fan but it is looking like Gazza will be dead in a year or two anyway doesn't it so Moat would have just been putting him out of his misery!
