... looked back on 'wiki' and Mitoo and I'm really none the wiser.

 

Here's the entry from Wikipedia (I think they may have left a crucial 'not' out of the sentence re Watford and Barnet)

 

The charity aspect of the competition is still maintained with the Herts FA donating £525 from the 2008-09 competition to various chosen football-connected charities such as the St Johns Ambulance Brigade and Disability Sport England. It is currently contested by the eight senior clubs in the county, outside the Football League (for this reason, Watford and now Barnet, do enter).

The eight clubs who entered in the 2008-09 season were Bishops Stortford and St Albans City (Football Conference), Ware, Cheshunt, Potters Bar Town and Hitchin Town (Isthmian League), Hemel Hempstead Town (Southern League) and the now defunct Berkhamsted Town (Spartan South Midlands League).

 

 

... obviously the entry needs a bit of work to bring it up to date.

 

On Mitoo I could only be 'bovvered' to go back to 07/08: when only Hertford were entered from SSM

- in 08/09 Berko were the sole reps and they w/drew after winning the first match

- last season Brox B and Lev Gn entered.

- the competition didn't appear in the drop down menu in 06/07 - not sure if any SSM clubs entered before that back to '97. Wiki states the Herts Charity Cup commenced in 1900. - and has a full list of winners.

The Woods raced into a two-goal lead in the first eleven minutes of this afternoon's pre-season friendly away to Spartan Leaguers Hanwell Town - and that was the end of the scoring!

 

Scott Orphanou fired home a sixth minute opener, and when Kyle Matthews clipped home a second a few minutes later, it seemed that Northwood might be on track for a hatful of goals.

 

But despite a succession of good chances being created in both halves, there was no addition to the scoring, although the defensive unit will be pleased to have kept their first clean sheet of the warm-up campaign.

 

 

Northwood reserves won 2-1 in a friendly at C B Hounslow United of the Combined Counties League. Max Moore and an own goal were Woods' scorers.
