R.I.P. Dick Marshall

Recommended Posts

Being reported on the Billericay Town website that long time Echo reporter Dick Marshall has died. Always kept an eye on the ESL and also kept in touch with many of us on here. He will be sorely missed in the local non league scene

He will certainly be missed by a lot of us.He only found out that had cancer seven weeks ago.He was the first person I met in football in this country 17 years ago when he was managing Shoebury Boys u'14s and through the Echo he asked me to coach them.R.I.P mate,I'm sure you will keep writing your articles from up there.frown.gif

This is unquestionably, very sad news and I share with you all, a piece I have submitted to the " Evening Echo " today :-

On behalf of the Essex Senior Football League I would like to pass on our sincere condolences to Dick's family and to your goodselves on his untimely passing and to say what an unforgettable person he was. This League owe a debt of gratitude to him for his unswerving interest and reporting on the rise and success of local clubs both before and in the past 29 years that my wife and I have personally known him. His totally fair and enthusiastic reporting and, a rare commodity, 100% accessibility, has done nothing but enhance the reputation of Football in South East Essex and the memories of deeds achieved by all our local clubs have all been covered by his reporting , a lot of which I was honoured to be in his presence travelling the country in the quest of F A Vase and Trophy success. He is sorely missed by us all.
