Slough Town and Alan Thorne

As you all say, more questions than answers. What I wrote is what Deaner told me, and my 2 kids heard it all. I can't separate fact from fiction as I don't know enough about the agreements, personalities, finances and hidden agendas etc. What we need to do at the next meeting is to really question Deaner (and whoever else attends) and try to get to the bottom of these issue which have plagued the club for so many years and decide whether we believe what we are being told.

On a more positive note, I quite liked Stag Meadow with it's decent (big) pitch, new terracing etc but I'm not parking my car in their car park to get a football through a window. How much did they get for allowing the 2 mobile phone masts to be installed (and what a good idea !). Decent game as well but where did the keeper come from ? Someone tell him that he IS allowed to handle the ball.

Keep the faith.

Phone masts are a great idea, and I believe they're £5,000 a year each with a Vodafone one to go up shortly.

The only concerns I have about the ground are:

No covering behind either goal

No netting behind the goal with the car park to stop the ball, although the scaffolding is in place

With three sides playing on it (Slough, Slough Reserves, Windsor) the pitch will cut up very badly over the winter months. Could lead to a fixture pile up, especially if either team has a cup run.

As for Deaner, he must think he's getting away with it all as no-one seems to want to put him on the spot at games. We must get the answers, as between Martyn, Rob Anderson & the council & The Thornes, there's a hell of a lot going on which we don't know about.

Couldn't agree more, but then I do work for a mobile phone manufacturer! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Incidentally, had you noticed that one of the floodlight masts at the York Road ground is actually a phone mast? It means the floodlights are slightly assymetric to the pitch, but it's another source of income for MUFC.

Unfortunately, I suspect that Britwell/Wexham are already well served by the network operators. The best hope for Wexham Park might be a 3G mast, since they need an awful lot more of these to cover the same area. I don't know what the demand for 3G would be in that part of Slough, but would be worth someone following it up...

I agree that we need to put Deaner and the key people at that meeting on the spot and get positive answers. We have had so many promises over the past few years that we owe it to ourselves to speak up.

Forget to mention that Deaner was really pi**ed off about the School situation being raised so late in the day and feels badly let down by Slough Council. He spent time talking to players as well so I assume they are getting paid (at least for the time being !)
