Grays In The Ryman Prem

Recommended Posts

According to the Grays forum, their officials are saying that they have won their appeal and will play in the Ryman Premier League next season. If this is the case, does this mean you will be relegated after all?

I think, as CE said, the fact that Ashford declined the reprieve and Hemel were actually relegated until that point means we will be ok.

The results of appeals on the F.A's website all mention following the rules and that would mean that the lesser placed/points side would lose out.

Be interesting if it is 23 sides though. That would, theoretically, mean five clubs relegated next season.

From Horsham forum...

At the Ryman AGM this afternoon, the League confirmed that the FA had directed the Ryman League to accept Grays, However, it still appears that they have no Ground-share Agreement in place with East Thurrock and the Ryman League are applying for Arbitration as they do not want to accept Grays. If they are forced to, it will almost certainly mean that the Premier Division will comprise 23 teams and 5 teams would be relegated at the end of the season. It has a huge knock-on effect and the Ryman League will fight against Grays joining.

In the NLP today, i read this as being re-inforced where the Ryman vice chairman is quoted as 'saying': if the FA direct us to takethem we will run with 23 clubs next year in the premier'.

At least it seems Margate are assured of our status whatsoever.

As per CE's post above-the implication is that apart from the groundshare-there are a few other issues with Grays to resolve

  • 2 weeks later...

Boy-will i be pleased when the actual season kicks off and we fulfill our first fixture in the premiership.

Whilst 23 teams in premiership is a possibility, will the league equally consider just 21 in ryman south in view of the Ashford situation-or would they then balance it up by placing the lowest premiership team into ryman south-and guess who that is !

Unlikely at this stage-but in business-i trust no-one

Our position is OK now whatever happens. There is still quite a bit of water to flow under the Grays' bridge although time is running out with the fixtures due to be published on 12th July (and presumably worked through during next week). From what I hear, the Ryman Premier (Grays) and Ryman South (Ashford) issues are not connected.

Sadly that does look more likely. I say "sadly" becasue 23 teasm means that each big attanedance day - local derbies at Christmas, new year, bank holiddays, one team will always miss out! Which is one reason I think the League were (and as far as I know, still) trying to resist the FA.

You can sort of envisage a Chester situation with grays failing to meet the october deadline-being wound up part way through the season, results expunged and thus some remaing teams gaining and some losing from the expungement (is there such a word ).

Makes me reflect on how well KP and MFC have done to extracate themselves from the mire over the last few seasons

Expunged is a great word, we should use in a conversion over the weekend.....

Whilst in Limone this morning I heard that the FA have turned down Grays due to them not having a 'Groundshare' in place.

The saga continues.

I will let you know if I hear anything else today but on the way to Riva del Garde this moning.

THE Ryman League have issued the following statement with regard to Grays Athletic FC and their position in the football pyramid for 2010-11.

"Last month an Appeal Board of The FA recommended that this Club be placed at Step 3 of the National League System and the Ryman League was the most geographically appropriate league. As a result the member Clubs of the League at their recent AGM were forced to consider and pass two emergency Special Resolutions to enable the number of Clubs in the League to be increased.

"Grays Athletic had indicated that it had a ground share agreement with East Thurrock United FC despite assurances to the contrary by the East Thurrock representative at the AGM.

"The League has been unable to approve a ground share at East Thurrock United FC for Grays Athletic and the conclusion has been reached that Grays Athletic FC does not meet the criteria for membership of the League. A statement has been issued by The FA today saying that 'It is very apparent that Grays Athletic FC does not meet the entry requirements for the Isthmian League and will not be able to compete at Step 3 for Season 2010/11'.

"Accordingly this League, which has not been able to set fixtures for the new season so far, will now proceed to arrange a fixture list for its 66 Clubs with the original 22 Clubs allocated to the Premier Division by The Football Association."

I must appologise for not getting back to you earlier on this but I bumped into a good friend of ours whilst in Riva and this led to quite a few bottles of Rose & Pizzas.

However, I ampleased to say that Abdullah caught his plane back to Manston yesterday & is residing back in his hotel in Broadstairs awaiting the new season with quiet enthusiasm!
