Witham Town lose FA appeal

Recommended Posts

WITHAM Town have lost their appeal against their promotion denial and will have to continue playing in the Essex Senior League.

Town had found themselves embroiled in controversy after finishing as runners-up last season to champions Stansted.

However, the Airportmen were unable to go up because their ground did not meet the required standard, leaving Witham believing they should go up instead.

Town appealed against the decision but lost, prompting Greaves to consider his future as Spa Road boss.

When asked what he would do, he told the Braintree & Witham Times: “I’m not sure.

“What’s the point in playing in a league where you can’t get promoted?

“It’s ridiculous and we’re gutted.

“Under the rules, the appeal committee felt the original decision was correct but we can’t understand that.

“It’s like they’re favouring failure over success.”

Assistant boss Adam Flint said the club had been confident of getting the decision over-turned.

“It seemed they were against us from the start,” he said.

Goodness gracious...... How difficult is it to understand? The rules are quite clear and specific in terms of the way the step 5 to 4 promotion system works. Witham missed out be 1 place, as the 3rd best runners up in a league where the champions couldn't be promoted. Priority is then given to reprieves before the likes of Witham.

Are the rules wrong? I think we all agree they need to be looked at... but for Witham to fail to understand how, under the rules, the FA made the correct decision makes them appear slightly lacking in intelligence.

1 or 2 Witham Town supporters have come up with a novel solution.

Well, it's different

I doubt, somehow, that this would be particularly popular with other ESL clubs. Or clubs from other leagues. Nevertheless, it's refreshing to see that the humility card hasn't been overplayed.

WHO THE BLOODY HELL DO THEY THINK THEY ARE !!!!

They are in the ESL because they wasn't good enough two years ago to stay in the Ryman. They are still in the ESL because they weren't good enough to get out of it last year. Everyone knew the rules at the start of the season - or did they not bother to check this as they thought they had a GOD given right to go straight back to the Ryman ???

To be honest I hope they naff off to the Ridgeons so we don't have to listen to their drivel & continual whinging.

I feel sorry for Danny Greaves as he is a decent bloke and shouldn't be associated to this rubbish

The subject ot the ESL and another league being disbanded to take Step 5 from 14 to 12 divisions and the clubs involved being reallocated has been discussed to death on the Non League Matters (successor to another) forum elsewhere so this suggestion is nothing new.
