The Kabbalah - Good or Evil

Recommended Posts

Much has been made of the Madonna trumpeted 'cult' known as The Kabbalah and I was wondering whether members had a view, is it good or evil. For what it's worth my view is very much the latter, incredibly Kabbalah followers believe a red bracelet worn on the left wrist helps stop negative energy entering the body and soul, what nonsense and many mainstream Jews rightly see the 'religion' as a perversion of Judaism's ancient traditions.

To be honest, I hadn't even heard of this religion until 'Madge' started going on about it , so it can't be a that popular 'cult'.

OK Rhodesly, I don't know anything about it but can you explain why it is evil to wear a red band on your wrist believing it to be helpful in preventing negative energy entering the body and soul?

I don't think it's any more evil than the Roman Catholic church (That's church not faith), which is anti-contraception, anti-abortion and a Hot House for Paedophiles.

It also campaigns against poverty, yet has billions in it's coffers. What is it they say about a rich man and the eye of a needle?

BTW, I am a Roman Catholic...... Though very much lapsed!!!

Loosely - Are you really that naive. Manufacturing and sales of 'worthless' Kabbalah merchandise continues to increase thanks to the likes of Madonna trumpting 'the cult', a great number of items being labeled as Kabbalah 'amulets and talismans', as well as those claiming to have Kabbalistic spiritual powers, are nothing more than the product of con merchants who are looking to make money off of an ancient tradition. The Kabbalah Red String Bracelet, referred to in my first post, is 'the cult's' most widely commercialised product, the red string is sold with claims that it will protect its wearer from 'the Evil Eye', these worthless bracelets are selling for anything from an extortionate $20 up to $50 plus, it's daylight robbery and a licence to print money.

Rhodesly - It never fails to surprise me about what you find to get angry about. I suppose a new pet hate for you will at least divert you from some of your other nefarious deeds.

What on earth does it matter if someone has found a way to extend the sales of unsold stock from Glastonbury and Camden Market. If suckers have money burning a hole in their pockets better they spend it on harmless costume knick knacks than going to their local dodgy viagra dealer and just blowing it. Can't see how it could possibly harm you, can you?

Loosely - Here are a few facts about the Kabbalah for you, it's just the tip of the iceberg:

1. A revealing tv documentary screened a while ago exposed the unscrupulous Kabbalah 'cult' selling 'healing' spring water sold to their unsuspecting followers for £4 a bottle which comes from a Canadian bottling plant, one cancer sufferer was told Kabbalah water would help to cure his disease and was advised to buy a batch worth £550. The bottling plant has been reprimanded in the past for failing to carry out proper health and safety tests.

2. Cash raised by donors for the Asian tsunami victims was spent on distributing Kabbalah Centre products in the devastated region such as the infamous 'healing' water at up to £2.80 a litre and copies of 'the cult's' own 'holy text' know as 'the Zohar', costing £289 for a 23-volume set. Pictures on the Kabbalah Centre website show 'grateful' survivors of the tsunami holding copies of the books in hospital.

3. A leading figure at one of 'the cults' many Centre's believes Jews killed in the Holocaust brought their downfall on themselves.

4. The Kabbalah claims to be a not-for-profit organisation but its leaders are said to live multi-millionaire lifestyles, there have been claims of visits to gambling and vice dens and expensive plastic surgery.

5. Three people from the BBC's documentary investigation team infiltrated the main Kabbalah Headquarters, 'the cult' have 40 sites around the world. The programme team also interviewed senior figures in the Jewish Community who denounced the Centre as a "nefarious bunch of charlatans". The Headquarters promotes a mixture of ancient Jewish mysticism and pseudoscience and is led by former New York Rabbi and, wait for it, insurance salesman, Philip Berg.

6. Madonna and her former husband Guy Ritchie are the most high-profile followers of the Kabbalah, other celebrity followers include Demi Moore, Roseanne Barr and, surprisingly, Melinda Messenger who comes across as if butter wouldn't melt in her mouth.

7. Madonna and Ritchie both regularly attended London's Kabbalah Centre off Bond Street when they were married. One senior figure said Madonna had joined because "she wants to understand how she works with her kids better, she wants to understand how to control her moods better, how to be more happy, how to be more tolerant with her husband and to maintain the relationship". (a lot of good that did her).

8. The £3.65 million W1 Centre, largely funded by Madonna, was under investigation by Westminster Council after the BBC documentary found evidence of devotees sleeping in windowless 'cells' in a basement.

Rhodesly - I hardly need to read all of your ravings to know that they will be a mixture of the usual half truths and your own special brand of twisting facts with fiction.

What blows your whole rant out of the water in the first sentence is criticizing someone for what they charge for a bottle of water, do you criticize any of the major Hotel Groups or restaurants for the extortionate prices they charge? Of course you do but what do you do about them when it's a lot closer to home then a Shalebrity Cult that wouldn't touch you with a bargepole, perhaps that is your real beef. Have they snubbed you?

And don't even start on Melinda Messenger, the girl is as pure as the driven snow. Obviously.

Loosely - Well this is something we are agreed on, I'm Melinda Messenger's biggest fan however it really surprised me to hear that she is involved with the Kabbalah as I wasn't aware

So she bought a bit of water and the odd band for her wrist, so what?

Loosely - I think there is a lot more to it than just that, like I said you could have knocked me down with a feather when I found out Melinda was involved with the Kabbalah as she is so genuine and down to earth, it was a huge disappointment

What you think and reality rarely shares any common ground so forgive me for taking your ramblings with a pinch of salt so to speak, to paraphrase yourself describing your posting on here.

Melinda is a great girl, innocent english rose type.

Loosely - Well exactly, I couldn't agree with you more but why oh why is she involving herself with a sinister 'cult',

Well Rhodesly - she probably knows more about it then the odd bits that you have presented from the world weird web, doesn't find it sinister and is over 21. From what I know about her - which is very little - she's a level headed girl with a sunny disposition so probably not laden with your hang ups.

Loosely - I could never fathom out what Melinda saw in her husband Wayne Roberts could you, she could have done so much better for herself, indeed the eleven year marriage has been in trouble on more than one occasion including a trial separation in 2008

Loosely - It's not a character assassination of Melinda Messenger though, far from it, like I said I'm her biggest fan

Unusual behaviour then for someone's biggest fan to be criticising a persons personal life, lifestyle choices, and taste in husbands. She must be over the moon to have you behind her.

and taste in husbands

Loosely - So you think Wayne Roberts was the right husband for Melinda then

Well absolutely Rhodesly, father of her children and all that, I'm sure she wouldn't change that for the world. Poor Melinda suffered from post natal depression following the birth of from memory two of her children, any husband who can support his wife and family through that is worth his salt.

How are your kids btw? Did Dorthe have any similar experiences or were you as useful as a chocolate teapot?
