Captain Haddock,GET REAL! If you really belief that JK "just wants to upset there plan" and make sure the crowd is small so we benefit then you are even crazier than you sound. Sorry but do you know how lame it sounds. Wake up as most of us now realise the club does not seem to care about the fans(season tickets need i say more!)

Merv, when did anyone knock Canvey Island for Dr. Feelgood. Send 'em to me. I'll teach 'em.
A truly cool band (I'm humming "Roxette" as I type this).
I take it you Canvey supporters don't take too kindly to having other supporters air their view.

Can I just say, I'm not knocking your club here, just your Chairman's apparent greed.
And can someone plaese explain why a "Sugar Daddy" can't be a greedy 'erm person? You can be both when the oportunity arises.
And to anyone who say's about a major payout for Burnley, please read my earlier message. The FA, Burney and Canvey get a 1/3 of the gate. And it is really childish to suggest "why should we let Burnley have a massive payout for the day".
Anyway, have a Merry Xmas all of you and I wish you all the best for the coming new year!!!

I have just been reading your comments and as a claret I must give you some accurate facts on the situation.

1 Burnley have been charging £5 a ticket (across the board) for a few games each season for last 2 seasons. We feel this is a great incentive to get people onto the turf who normally wouldn't afford the £13-19 for normal match days.

2 The average take home pay in Burnley is £180-£200. So a decent ticket costs 1/5 of your wage and 2 games in a week 2/5 - that is a LOT of money to lay out!

3 Burnley's forward thinking in attracting support has been shown in the last 2 season by making childrens season tickets £35 in all areas. This is the way of encouraging the local children to support their LOCAL team (know what I mean..).
This shows that to be succsessful you don't need to rip supporters off - you need to encourage them!!!
The fact that your club would make more money with a £6 gate means CIFC MUST want a smaller crowd - cant be for the £££.
I find it dissapointing to hear some of the comments said - is football about the supporters or the Club??
See you on the 6th
Hodgy

We have all had our say but at the end of the day there is nothing that the supporters of Canvey FC could have done even if they had wished to.

I would also add that like referees once they have made their decision it stays and thats it.

We will never know if greed was behind the issue, history would suggest that may be a fact but in this instance I don't think so, there is a motive here and it has already been stated.

I have already stade in another thread - Dageham Ticket prices for their third round game has been announced at £20 adults £15 concessions, does this mean that Dagenham are being greedy too? if you think so have a belt on their message board, it would give us a break!!

I thought the point at issue was not whether the price of the tickets was too much but that Burnley offered to price the tickets at at much lower figure and Canvey turned it down.
I agree that £14 is good value but £6 would have been even better value.
Now that it's all been priced up, how much will the tickets for the replay be? smile.gif" border="0
[ 20 December 2001: This message was edited by: Dave GNFC ]

If Canvey fans don't mind being fleeced to watch better players etc. thats up to them but why should fans of the visiting club be ripped off? On this basis other clubs should charge visiting Canvey fans extra, how do they feel about that? I think the Ryman, and every other league, should set a maximum price at the start of each season to stop any team gaining an unfair advantage by ripping off spectators, many other clubs allow kids in for free. If Canvey are allowed to get away with this sort of thing, others may follow thus destroying the whole spirit of non-league!

Having read through this thread and all the 'backbiting' I imagine you can all see why we let Chelmsford City beat us in the first round!!!!

Vic, the great thing about free speech is that everyone is entitled to their say. Even when they are talking utter boolocks - just like John Crawshaw above.
I have read stuff that makes less sense than this, but honestly can't remember when.
Merv CIFC

Am I a junior member? I had not realised, still I'll try not to lose too much sleep over it! I have obviously touched a raw nerve here I didn't realise some of these ****** Isl....er I mean Canvey Islanders were so touchy about their rip off prices. Yes I am indeed from Kent whether or not I am from Gravesend is irrelevant so don't try using that as a smokescreen! Personally I couldn't give a xxxx how much they charge I won't be going there again I just feel sorry for any unsuspecting away fans that do! Earlier this season I spoke to some Grays Athletic fans and their opinions were similar to mine, strange that!

Yep, there is some confusion here. I suspect you have been called a Junior member because your arguments read like those of an eight year old. If you are older than that, well, that speaks volumes in itself.
You ask in your original posting, "Why should the fans of visiting teams be ripped off?" Did you not realise, Canvey are the visiting team on this occasion. Remember the game is in Burnley and we live on Canvey. That makes US the visiting team. Read some of the Canvey postings - we don't feel we are being ripped off.
Your research into the situation should have revealed that Burnley admission prices are normally higher than the £14 being charged for this cup-tie. This means that even the home supporters are getting in at a reduced price. Makes your 'rip-off conspiracy' theory just a tad thin, wouldn't you agree?
More research (you do research these topics, don't you? You don't just pontificate without having done some homework, I'm sure) would reveal that the various leagues do impose both minimum and maximum admission charges, but £14 for a 3rd Round FA Cup game involving a 1st Division club at home is well within both boundaries. If anything, it's towards the bottom end of the scale.
Back to your original posting. I'm not quite sure how setting an admission charge of £14 (or even £24 come to that) would gain an unfair advantage for a team. You'll need to explain that in far more detail than you've gone into so far to help me with that one. You might also go on to explain why some clubs letting kids in for free has got anything to do with this subject.
Your final sentence is the most confusing and illogical of all. Canvey haven't 'got away' with anything. The FA mediated on the admission price discussion, but even without their intervention I'm still lost by your logic. Other clubs will negotiate admission prices that are higher than bargain basement levels, indeed, they always have. Is this really the end of non-league football as we know it? I think not.
Your latest posting doesn't get any clearer. You mention, "I won't be going there again..." Where? Burnley? We've never played there before so you've lost me.
You spoke to some Grays' fans and they too had disparaging things to say about their local rivals, Canvey Island. Well, that's a surprise - NOT. Dig a bit deeper and you'll find many fans at Grays, Purfleet, Billericay, Braintree and Heybridge who will join with a discussion that puts Canvey into anything less than a favourable light. Bit like finding a Spurs fans who dislikes Chelsea or a Man U fan who thinks City are rubbish. You're not basing anything on that are you?
You do get near a sensible comment (eventually) when you mention that being a Kentish man you couldn't really care less about what happens to Canvey Island. I might ask why you stick your snout in to a discussion that has nothing to do with you in the first place if that's how you think. I reckon that, like a lot of others, you saw a chance to put the boot in on the team that is very successful and attracting lots of media attention - Canvey Island. Don't know whether that's jealousy or what but, should you respond to anything else on this thread, please try to make your argument reasoned and sound. That way you might be mistaken for a grown up.
[ 23 December 2001: This message was edited by: Frenchy ]

I do believe that the League sets a Min/Max for league games, unless there are rules governing charging the maximum then a club has a right to charge the maximum if it wishes, it is then the clubs choice home or away.

What is Canvey being allowed to get away with?

There are always more than one way of looking at things and as Merv said freedom of speech also gives way to freedom of choice, I could always go down the road and watch Concord Rangers for a lot less money but I wont be watching the same standard of football or success and excitement that has come our way, I think it is called 'The price of success'.

'The Yellow Army' are Canvey Island FC 'supporters' as the word implies.
