My son and I have paid at west Ham £70 for our tickets.For this game we can travel to Burnley get in have a few beers and still have change in my pocket.

Its about time people realised if you want quality you have to pay for it otherwise go and watch Billericay.<p>Regards<p>Skint Canvey fan

Well I'm happy, I went to see the bank manager today, he has extended my overdraft and I also sent the missus up pawn brokers with spare tyre,got a few quid for that. Now at least a can get up there it just leaves the problem of finding the money to get into the stadium, oh yes and the worry if I get a flat tyre on the way, now I see what the missus meant now!! oh well I suppose I wil have to go back to the Bank manager again!!

I have no axe to grind. I go to Canvey only perhaps 10 times a season, a few away games and watch a lot of Nationwide and Premiership and other non-league football. However the one aspect of Canvey's magnificent recent past which for me leaves a slightly unpleasant taste in the mouth has been Canvey's approach to pricing. There are two sides to the argument, agreed, but it must be better for football to have a match played in a packed stadium than in a three quarters empty one. I have no problem with "supporters" who JUST want to go to the home cup games paying a premium but there should be some way to identify the regular fans (after all, sadly, there's not that many of them) and not fleece them at every opportunity - even though plenty of them don't seem to mind.

Can I have a say here?<p>As a Billericay supporter and a rival, I have been monitoring this very closly and let me re cap.<p>Burnley want to charge £6. Canvey want to charge £16. The FA have lowered the price to what £14 or £12?<p>Someone somewhere is being a greed b**t**d. Football is supposed to our national game for the working man. Okay people can afford more these days but come on... a fair price for the level of competition. You have to balance this out that the FA has a share of the gate as well and SHAME ON THEM as well!!!<p>The problem with football today is it run by greedy money men who don't give a toss for anything else but their wallets and I am shocked that your Chairman has sunk to that level. Okay, we banter and mention about "Sugar Daddy" but Greedy as well. In my own way I respected Jeff King. he has done wonders for your team (I could say club but.... still the hole - ya don't get me on that one) and power to him and to you. This, well, I loose all the grudging respect I had for him. He may think you're the Man U of non league football but there is no reason to go ahead and try to rip your supporters off.<p>For some reason, I feel angry. It is not my club but it has mad me so mad that I don't think I can give a reasoned arguement here. <p>Speechless. You know, I feel for the Canvey supporter here, I really do. What does your chairman think of you?<p>CANV, I've read your arguement and I'm sorry, way off line. Non league football (and football in general) does not need this.<p>Anyway, if I calm down a bit, I may give a more reasoned arguement but if I don't, have a Merry Xmas all of you. we can agree to differ on this gazza.. but 2 points i'd like to reiterate (spelling?)

1. we either have a suger daddy or a greedy chairman, it cant really be both.. can it?

2. Burnley will be happy to jump into the pheonix league if it gets the go ahead. well thats hardly helping out the clubs lower down is it?

also did burnley get a vote on the 2 up from the conf issue? and what way did they vote? serious question..

I have read the posts on this topic and am absolutely fed up with certain people coming out with the age old excuse "if you want to watch quality players you have to play top prices" this is **** and you all know it. We could have paid 6,00 across the board to go and watch Burnley but yet again the club have to ruin it fior everyone. Surely it is better to go out in style with a cracking atmosphere instead of a few hardcore fans( i honestly don't know where numbers like 5/6,000 come from). Because of the clubs greed and thats all it is most canvey fans won't be making the trip so close to xmas. The club do not care about the fans but are they so thick that they don't realise they will now make less money and it will be a **** atmosphere. Questions have to be asked. What happened to all the money made from last season if the players only cost 13,000? Its about time we stopped seeing the club through rose tinted glasses and woke up to what is really going on.

dirt cheap season tickets would be giving something back to the real supporters but i digress...i happen to agree with the club this time, i dont always (season ticket arguement being a case in point).. i appreciate your arguements but it still comes back to do we have a sugar daddy getting some well deserved money back or an evil director leeching money of the thousands (mm where were they last week ag chesham) of loyal canvey fans.. lets keep it frdly guys its christmas!!!

Bleating on about prices firstly canvey entrance fee is one pound more than yours and don't kid yourself you would not pay it if you could have half the success we are enjoying.<p>Secondly<p>How many third round ties will you pay less than fourteen quid entrance.

Lets all get real here if we want conference football I don't mind playing slightly over the odds.

Any club is about the fans. They are the ones who keep coming week in week out whilst Chairmen and Managers come and go. (I've lost count of the number of Chairmen who have been at Gravesend since I started going)<p>This was a chance for the club to give something back to the fans, and they blew it I'm afraid.<p>I agree with you about the season tickets, but that as you said is another issue.<p>Perhaps the club could subsidise the travel to Burnley which may pay for itself with extra fans going while keeping the home fans at home <p>See you on the 8th, but until then Merry Xmas

CANV, this isn't about the rivalry between our two clubs. This is about football, supporters and encouraging support for a club. <p>Succesful though it is, isn't really pulling in Conference average crowds and therefore a little consideration and less profit would have been nice.<p>If you want to pay then you go. People with families that support your club may find your sentiment a little hard to swallow and therefore not go. <p>Either way, Canvey won't get the support it quite probably deserves for such a big game.<p>(apologies for spelling.... im hearing you guys... but it will be helping burnley fans not us.. the price of the ticket will be a small part of the overall day out..sure burnley want a big crowd and sure they want to do the best for their fans..they seem happy to be part of the pheonix money grab , no problem with that i dont blame em just like i dont blame our boys for requesting their fair share of gate money for an f.a.cup 3rd round match...we can argue the dynamics of the crowd size till the cows come home, i guess we will have to see what the crowd is on the day.. i'll be there and will happily part with me 14 quid ...if canvey decide to be 'nice' to their fans then its a season ticket call with maybe discounts for future cup games thats how to really target the true fan

Gazza & Dave and whoever else - I think the true perspective here is that those who would be willing to travel all the way to Burnley and the costs that 'that' involves will be happy to pay an extra £8.00 just to experience the day itself. On a personal bases I would have been willing to pay more anyway.

Having said that I do understand your frustration on this one and am also sure that given the same circumstances and being the supporters of your respective clubs you too would also pay the same entrance fee!

Opportunities to see your own non league club take on the might of a division One high flyer in a National competition does not happen every Saturday!

Come on how many of you guys have paid a lot more to go and watch you favorite professional side play,(be honest), I think where Canv is coming from is suppporting your local non league club is real special, it means more to the supporters and then to see them do so well in an FA cup is even more special so the majority of those who go each week are prepared to pay that bit extra on special occassions like this. infact I'd go as far as saying we would expect to pay more not less for a game of this magnatude.

Seems to me this is just another opportunity to knock Canvey FC and the Canvey fans. Like I said before, any excuse will do. What the frig do the these other fans from other clubs really want from this debate? To represent non-league football? My @rse. They see a potential dent in the yellow armour and decide to go all moral and upright. In the past they've hit us on the 'Sugar Daddy' front, the carp ground front, the rubbish pitch, the island's oil refineries and even Dr Feelgood's music. They never give up and admission prices is just another brick in the wall - this one as pathetic as all the others.<p>The Canvey fans, on the other hand, seem to be happy to accept the admission prices. Not because they are trying to grab any moral high ground (there isn't any) but because going up to Burnley for the day is going to cost a minimum of £50 (coach, refreshments on the way up, a few beers up there, a mid-day meal, admission, a programme, a burger, a few more beers and refreshments on the journey home). More likely to be £60+. How can saving £8 on a ticket make any significant difference?<p>Burnley fans are getting a cheap day at £14 anyway. If they're too tight to show up, that's their loss.<p>You others, with all your crocodile tears have had your say, now let the Yellow Army pay their dosh and enjoy their day. If I was in JKs and the Canveys boards boat I would have done exactley the same as they have done. We want to upset there every plan. We dont really want a packed house at Turf Moor. We want it to be not such an nice earner for them. We dont want it to be a good day out for the locals - let it be a poorly attended game. Let the locals have the hump and let it be a drab, heartless performance from the home team as a result. Let them even put out a weakened team. Let the whole day be a non-event for the town of Burnley.<p>Then let the Yellow Machine in!.<p>The usual faces will be amongst the Canvey supporters. £14 quid is a reasonable price - its the 3rd Round of the most famous domestic football competition in the world!.<p>I was more concerned at the prices for the last round at our place. Thought that was a tadge excessive.<p>We are right up against it in this match - facing a tough team, tough ground and far from home. Anything off the field that may help has to be done.
