Paper Talk

RR - What Chris said. At the moment it's verbal agreements, which aren't worth the paper they're not written on! I believe I was making perfect sense.

Matt,

A 'verbal' agreement is different to a player signing a registration form. As stated on another thread, players can sign registration forms now but cannot be 'officially' registered until 1st July.

Obviously a player can still change their mind whether it's verbal or they have signed a registration form but IMO by signing a registration form they have given it a bit more thought and shown a bit more 'commitment' to that club than just 'verbally' agreeing to sign.

Also, any other club wishing to talk/approach that player has to 'officially' make a 7 day approach.

Players up and down the country are not just 'verbally' agreeing to sign, they are signing registration forms.

I think the seven day rule would only apply after the 1st July once the player is registered.

And that's why managers like you [WCW] need secretaries like me, to keep you out of trouble when you don't know the rules. LOL

Players signing league registration forms do so in front of an independent witness and a club official and therefore are entering into a legally binding contract [of employment as opposed to an FA Players' contract] irrespective of when that form is registered with the league. A verbal agreement is also a contract but for obvious reasons is much harder to prove if there is any dispute.

So as I stated earlier in this thread it is all speculation and no fact - only once the forms are completed and submitted to the leauge has any player "signed" and then it is fact and no longer speculation.

So what you read in the local rag from now until then (and probably after) will still be journalistic guess work and as the saying goes "when did the truth ever get in the way of a story".

Staines, it is fact when the said player/players have signed on the dotted line and the clubs concerned make a statement (hopefully on their web-site first) to that effect.

I would imagine that the differences between being registered and not registered is obviously that when registered they can play for the club and if registered a transfer would be required if they want to play for another club.
