Paper Talk

In the Express Bateman details some of the players who have agreed to return next season:

Perks, Jacko Sweeney, Sinclair, Bowden-Haase, Seebey, Herron, S. Martin, Sippetts and Harper.

Elliot Buchanan has opted to return to full time football whilst Danny Murphy is mulling over an offer from Hemel.

He is also in talks with a striker to join.

Doesn't say, just says he is looking to return to full time football.

I suppose there might be the opportunity for Buchanan to return if he doesn't find anywhere. Who knows.

Be interesting to see how Sippett's performs with a full pre-season behind him after last seasons injuries.

Can't blame Elliot at all for trying to go full-time, although I think the option will be there to come back should he not find anywhere full-time before the season starts though. Did hear a rumour of him trialing for Hayes in the Conference in the summer. Murphs hopefully will stay as he's a real favourite at Slough.

So it seems from the players of last season no news on:

- Graeme Edwards

- Kyle Jeffrey

- Sam Bateman

- Yiadom Yeboah

- Dwaine Clark

- Dean Clark

- James Duncan

- Tyron Sealy

- Mo Sharif

- Tommy Hayes

- Sean Sonner

- Adam Martin (Although a few weeks back Bateman said he was hopeful of him coming back)

Although apart from Sharif, Yeboah and Sonner the rest were in and out last season for one reason or another. One thing I will say that despite the players coming back who have been listed I would not say they are certain to stay, look at Yash last season. Was invited back then Bates decided he was not needed. Spose it depends on who else we bringt in pre-season to take a look at.

Looks like Edgewoth and Kean are all set to leave by what's been said.

shame if we do lose 2 of our best players in Buchanan and Murphy but i think we can get over it if both do go. hopefully the striker close to signing is a young fast goal machine ideally in my eyes. maybe Fenton could come back to play left back.

rest of the defence looks good though if we keep NBH, Sweeney and Seeby especially. if we was to add Dunlop to that thats pretty formidable.

we seemed fairly lacking of real goalscoring threat up front even with Buchanan so quite a lot of improvement needed there though Sippetts i think could come good

not going to really worry who is and who isn't back, going, coming back been or went until that first whistle of the first game, yes we had a team that has been the best at slough for a long time, but the best teams change they do not stay with what they have got they change perssonel and hopefully improve so until the pre season is over and the first match underway i will leave my judgement as to how good the team is.

Spot on Heavy Trucker - all this is speculation and the papers trying to find a story out of rumours and twisting Batemans words.

See who the starting 11 and bench are on the first day of the season and then compare to the rest of the teams in our leauge!

dead right and a spot on comment

Looks like we have signed Dunlop and you guys have bagged Paul Coyne...

I food footballer with a good free kick, he should do well for you guys. But don't be shocked when ever he doesn't get the ball or he misses a pass his head drops & he somewhat sulks...

Will the Slough faithful forgive him for the tackle he saw red for at Beaconsfield in the 08/09 season.

So one minute the Express say we are signing Dunlop and the next he signs for Windsor - quality reporting!

But they didn't say that he was signing. They had a quote from Bateman saying "I have spoken to Will Dunlop, he phoned me the other day and said he was thinking of moving. The ball is in his court now but I’ve already said I want some more local players in the team."

I think that the key word there is thinking; not agreed, not wanting, but thinking.

Exactly Mal - the paper is printing speculation and hear say, rather than facts - that is why I no longer buy any papers and treat most media with the contempt it deserves.

An example being ITV HD more intrested in showing car adds than England goals!

I also hate how ITV cram adverts into a game with next to no comment between halfs and then having to wait 10 mins after a game for comment just so ITV can feed the brain dead with advertising.

However the brain dead are in for 3 months of watching no-bodies making fools of themselves in big brother and then this being whipped up into the most important thing in the world by the likes of the sun and the mirror!

Rant over.

Staines, look at your copmment again:- So one minute the Express say we are signing Dunlop and the next he signs for Windsor

They never said he had signed or was signing. What they did do was print a quote from the Slough Town manager saying "I have spoken to Will Dunlop, he phoned me the other day and said he was thinking of moving. The ball is in his court now but I’ve already said I want some more local players in the team."

How is this hear say and speculation if they have printed a direct quote from the manager? The fact is that the manager has spoken to the player and he is thinking about moving clubs and that is what has been reported.

I agree with Mal. Surely nobody has signed for anyone yet anyway? I'll be assessing our line-up on the opening day of the season, not as of today!

Staines, stories like this only reaffirm what I said the other week about the club website (as an official source) only announcing confirmed signings and not reports from newspapers.

For what it's worth, it would be a shame to lose Buchanan, but I expected him to look higher. I trust Bates to bring in quality though. Dave Anderson is a good start!

Matt, what your saying doesn't make a lot of sense.

Why do you think players haven't signed for any team yet?

Windsor have signed Parsons, Dunlop and Chennels otherwise they wouldn't have reported it on their web-site.

I would be surprised if Bowden-Hasse hasn't put pen to paper with us after Bateman stating that he wants to stay with us next season.

RR the Southern Football League will not be accepting any player registrations until after the 1st July 2010. So players can sign forms etc, but they can't be registered till then, all you are really getting is a 'commitment' from the player.
