Very sad news.

Dave was a fountain of football knowledge that i know Bates, who he was close friends with, tapped into on many occasions. There wasn't a lot he couldn't tell you about the non league game.

I personally played at 3 clubs where Dave was secretary, including Slough Town where he penned my first contract under Brian McDermott. I will have nothing but fond memories of him and his dry sense of humour.

Condolences to Dave's family at this sad time,

best wishes,

Jacko

He always had time for the ordinary fans too, thought he was a top bloke. Though the chant who ate all the pies was prob written for him!

Not sure where to start here....David Stanley was a very close personal friend of mine who was simply the best football administrator there has been as far as I'm concerned.

I am devastated at the news of his passing away and my sincere condolencies go to his boys, Phil, Gavin and Neil, all of whom I have watched grow up during my playing days

.

David had a massive involvement in my own career, both as the secretary who signed virtually all of my playing contracts ( including Slough) and more recently as my own football secretary as I embarked on a career in football mangagement.

In all my involvement in football both as a player and mangager I feel extremely priveleged to have known David both as a colleague and as an individual, a very knowledgable individual, who's advice I listened to and respected and who was so passionate about non league football.

I spoke to David at least every week and will sorely miss his presence and support of me which has been unwavering over the past 25 years, I am not ashamed to admit that I cried many tears when I heard the sad news yesterday and David is a huge loss to the non league football community and his family.

I can pay no bigger compliment than people like David only come along very rarely in a lifetime and I am proud and priveleged to be able to call him a sincere and valued friend of mine.
